My vet live less than a mile up the road and I can call him and 3am if I need to. Breeding for profit is cruel, making a profit at the end of working hard to provide the world with happy, healthy and wonderful dogs is not but believe me you can tell a good breeder because their the ones that spend all the money they would be able to keep as profit on making their dogs happy and healthy. I'm proud to breed my animals and if I thought doing it was ever EVER going to hurt them in any way, every single one would be spayed/neutered and live at home with me as my pets. Its like saying your children aren't yours any more just because they have children of their own. My chis are still my pets and always will be no matter what!

I totally agree with you. I know some body with a chi mix they got from somebody who couldn't keep him anymore so now my friend wants to use the dog as stud service and I'm said you shouldn't do that with a mix breed because there are already too many backyard breeders and such and for one its not like they went out and bought the dog. The dogs really sweet but his owner is a real *******. He thinks he is doing good by him by letting him breed but I serioiusly think dogs are like children and really don't consciously know what is going on when their doing it. I mean I'm not saying its wrong to let them mate but irresponsible for people to breeding for a profit. I know the guys parents and they have three chihuahuas now and I look at them and I'm thinking they shouldn't be breeding them. One is too old the other had complications and they ended up sending the pups to the shelter since the mom couldn't support them. Some actually disappered from their backyard and they live right next to a busy Highway. It really ticks me off to know some people thinks thats fine. I mean if I couldn't control my urge to mate I think I would want to get spayed...or neutered.

My breeder has several dames but one sire. Each dame is in a clean, warm and safe environment with their own pups she does not allow any pups to leave the mother until 12 weeks and one week eating solid food..usually 13 weeks. I thought this was a good environment for breeding. Was I wrong?

I know that Bailey didn't come from a great breeder, and we won't be going back to them when we get another Chi.

The breeder's were young, early 20's. They didn't let us in the house (but we could see it was on the dirty side), Bailey was brought out to us on the porch. We did meet his mom, who was already pregnant again, Bailey and his siblings were supposedly 5 weeks (they say, but we think they were younger) at that time! They had said his siblings were taken at 4 weeks.... WAY TOO EARLY to be away from their mom, which we later found out from the vet that Bailey was too young at that time too.

He was stinky all over and had lots of crud in his ears, they had him on cheap crappy food and his breath stank!!! We decided even though they wanted $200 for him, it was better that we take him home and try to give him a decent life!

We have no idea what his dad looks like, anything about their temperaments etc. We didn't do a lot of research about breeders etc before we got Bailey. I know so much more now, thanks to this site, so we are better prepared for our next addition. I don't regret bringing Bailey home, we really believe we saved him. I worry and wonder about his siblings.... *sighs*.

I am 100% POSITIVE they were only breeding for money. Especially since the mom wasn't even supposed to be done weaning her first litter, let alone already pregnant with her next!!!

Now however, Bailey is healthy, happy, clean, adjusting well and a total pleasure to have in our home (when he isn't having potty issues lol). He is spoiled rotten and very well loved!

I wish I could find out how is siblings are, if they are even alive. Its sickening!

This actually makes me feel really good about the breeder I met a few days ago. I just went to her house to be cheered up, but I had thought that I might purchase from her in the future. All the dogs were kept in their house with them. Most were running around loose, but the two dams who had babies were crated. She only saw me because I was recommended to her by the vet (who I think is hoping I will get a dog to help me with Poppet's death). She keeps in touch with all but two of her buyers. Won't sell puppies until they're 15 weeks of age. Keeps smaller ones longer to make sure they're healthy and cautions all owners about the dangers of low blood sugar in the smaller chis. All of her dogs were friendly...more so than even my good natured boys. They actively came up to me within seconds of meeting me and were jumping into my lap, giving kisses, and pleading to be petted. I saw the dams, and they were friendly too. The owner reached in and gave her a little pat while I was there and let her out for a spell to give her a break from her pups. The pups came out and sat with us too...so cute! They were adorable and hyper little things: running around and chasing each other, playing tug-o-war, and occasionally stopped by for a refill of kisses. It really made my day.

Default Chihuahua Puppies in London

Has anyone heard of a lady in London who travels around the country buying pups and then brings them back to london for sale? it's bizarre.

Default Thanks

I have updated my list of questions for the potential breeders I am going to call soon with most of these questions. I now have like 15-20 questions to ask. I sure hope the people I call can answer them with knowledgeable answers and that I get a positive vibe from them. If anyone has any other advice or questions I can ask, I am all for it! Thanks!
