How do you know if a chi is a pure breed of a mix of something ?

If you get from a reputable breeder--who is registered with the KC and you have pedigree showing the multi generations--all likely it is chihuahua.

was just asking about when you see them out and about a lot of people clam they are pure but sometimes they just look a little different.

There are many looks of a chi. There are ones with the more rounder head and short snout, rounder head with long snout, deer head with long or short snout, short and stocky or slim and long legged. It's really hard to guess sometimes. And they range from 2 pounds to 15 pounds, at least around where I live. I was told by the shelter worker any small smooth coated dog with upright ears is tagged a chi there, so that makes it even more confusing.
