Our cat Lily was handed in to our vets surgery when she was hit by a car in August 2011. The operation was done to fix her leg (broken in 8 places!) and I'm sure the vet or nurses would have taken her had we not stepped in to foster her. In fact, Simon the vet seemed surprised when we turned up and said we were more than happy to have her

It DOES seem wrong to just destroy homeless animals whether they are healthy or not but in a tiny way I can see how hopeless the rehoming situation must seem to vets and shelter workers So many innocent animals in what seems to be becoming a VERY uncaring world! I know, as a fosterer and fund raiser for my local small rescue group, it CAN get to you at times and feel like banging your head against a brick wall! The human race just seems to be getting more and more materialistic and regards animals as disposable objects to 'be got rid of' the minute they get bored with them or they, the animals, go out of fashion!

The girl will not be back at the SPCA until Monday, but I
am going to get the name of this Vet when she gets back.

I remember her saying to me that if someone came in with
an animal and said they were a stray or they no longer wanted
the pet that the owner's policy was that the animal could
not be examined and could not be boarded and must be euthanized
immediately no matter if they appeared healthy or not.

I've been so upset at myself for being distracted and not really
taking in what she said to me until later. I keep picturing someone
wanting to do the right thing by taking a stray/pet to this office
and then this vet just kills them.

My mom used to work for a vet. She said there were instances when a owner would bring in a pet they didn't want anymore. For whatever reason. They left the pet there expecting it to be euthanized. However, thank goodness, this vet would not kill a healthy animal. He worked to rehome it. Sadly, that's probably not the norm.
