I don't like the sweet potato treats either- they are really hard to break into pieces and I can imagine it is hard for them to chew.

I have a fear of Lulu choking on something because my Mom met a lady whose Yorkie died this past summer because she choked on food. They tried to rush the dog to a vet, but it was too late.

A similar thing happened to Tango back in December. I have special treats for him and another sort of treats for our bigger dog, which are really kind of hard and I don't let him anywhere near them usually.

So they had been outside and coming in I was feeling generous and I asked them if they wanted a treat. Well, I threw the bigger dog treat to Tippy, our other dog, and she missed catching it and Tango pounced on it and scoffed it down double quick time.

Then he was gagging and swallowing really hard, it must have been caught in his throat, and he looked real frightened. I was about to call the vet as he would have had to come 35kms into town as it was a Sunday, when Tango finally puked it up. I have never been so happy to see a pet be sick. He bought it all up and it was practically still in the same shape. He must have just about tried to swallow the thing whole.

Scared the life out of me I can tell you. I am so very careful with their treats now.
