Was on my back porch this am, screened in, I was cheewing on a chew bone, looked up and a huge Hawk on my fence, put Ike in the house and yelled at the Hawk, he wan't about to leave till I started growling like a dog.
I only take Ike out right now with my other dogs , a few times a day, never at night, I am now afraid to take him out at all.
Throw a shoe at it! Lol They actually have hawk repellent for people who have chickens! Maybe grabbing some of that will take those unwanted visitors away from your Ike!
Gosh that is scary, I was scared last week when there was a huge heron on our roof but a hawk would be much worse, take care.

Our home has a very desirable 'lagoon view' in our back yard. That lagoon is home to a couple of alligators. Need I say more regarding why Simcha does not go out unattended into our back yard. We also have neighborhood ospreys, but at least our 13 lb. 'baby' is at minimal risk from birds of prey. Just the other day, I did see our local alligator take down a modest sized bird, probably an egret. Lots of thrashing around in the water.
We don't let Odie outside unless we're right by her. Too many predatory birds in our area, and dogs do get grabbed by them occasionally. My friend was just telling me that a gutsy wolf attacked someone's dog in her town, and it was on leash! Yikes.
My dad has had good luck with those little foil pinwheels for kids. He sticks them on the fence posts. You might also try feeding the smaller birds, crows and jays will chase off hawks.
None of our dogs ever go out by themselves, as we also get a lot of snakes, we have a big waterway behind our house where they all like to hang out and a wooded lot. I won't take Ike out at night at all, he is way to fast for us and being black he is hard to see in some spots in the yard, it is all fenced in but, I have a hard enough time watching my pug at night she is also black. As soon as he gets a little bigger and can wear his harness I will be using that on him with his leash, I am a nervous wreck, living down here (FL) we didn't have to watch out for all this in Jersey, poisonous snake etc. I will have to check out that spray and pinwheels. We have used snake away and it does no good. Now, I am hoping no alligartors decide to visit our water way. Down here it is called water way, in Jersey it is a ditch.
