We have had a barking complaint from our neighbour! I really don't want our neighbour to get annoyed and call the police or something. Has anyone got any tips on how to stop his barking whilst he is alone? Hs anyone used the anti barking CD's at all? Could he have seperation anxiety? We have tried to video him to see what triggers his barking but it keeps cutting out after 1 hour!

P.s he has total run of the bottom of the house. Could shutting him off in the kitchen be an option? Does he have access to too much space?

Is it non-stop barking? It could very well be separation anxiety. Since your video isn't working, maybe try to get some info from your neighbors about the length, etc. and let them know that you're actively trying to find a solution so they know that you care and are taking their complaint seriously.

I went to speak to her when I got home and she said constantly from 4-6 he was barking! I explained that he's not in danger and that its only one day a week he is left alone for a long period of time. Is there any way to train him fast to learn how to be alone? I'm so worried we are being irresponsible dog owners!

I don't think you are being irresponsible.

Does he stay in a crate while you are away or does he have the run of the house. We take our dogs to work with us. Barking is still a problem because my business neighbor doesnt like it and I don't blame him! But I keep a water bottle handy and he knows he "gets it" when he doesn't stop. He's allowed to alert us, but then he must stop.

When they are at home and we go out, Angel stays in his crate/carrier, Susie our golden, has free run, but we turn the television on and draw the curtains closed. 95% of the time, if they cannot see or hear anything outside the house, they will not bark. They do bark when we come home sometimes.

Barking is a tough one to break, I think. Because unless you're there to correct it its difficult. How old is he? He will probably settle down when he gets a little older.

I agree with Cindy that it may be hard to stop the barking if you are not there. Max used to bark a lot and we used time out to try and stop him as he was barking at every little sound outside. He is much better now so we don't have to use it much any more. We find it best to leave him in his crate when we go out and he seems to sleep most of the time so maybe it would be worth trying that with him?

He's just about to turn 7 months and due to be fixed in 2 weeks. We have had him for 3 weeks so we haven't had him since a puppy. He will only be alone for one day a week for a long time as the other days a family member comes in at 12 and stays till I get home from work. In the new year he will be going to "doggie day care" (off to the mother in laws as she works shifts and has two dogs) I'm terrified we are doing irreversible damage! I feel like an anxious first time mother! God knows what happens when I have kids! Ha

Have you tried exercising him before you leave? Like really tiring him out?
