I think most Chi 's get on well with Children as long as the kids are taught that the dog is just little and they have to be gentle because the can be hurt easily. My Charlie just adores my Grandkids when they come over or we go to their house Charlie just thinks its the best thing that could happen its like taking a kid to a carnival. He will play and run and chase them they play hide and seek the kids will hide and Charlie goes around and finds every one of them they play ball and tag and Charlie is in his element. I think all dogs love kids unless something happens to them that makes them fearful of them. Thats why its important to teach the kids to be kind and gentle and then there should not be any problems at all.

I have 2 fifteen month old grandsons, Rolo is fine with both. We got Rolo when they were 10 months and he was 12 weeks. I look after one grandson 3 days a week and the first thing Rolo does when he comes in the morning is flip on his back and give him his belly. Then they have kisses, then they run up and down together, then they get up to mischief together! Thomas will give Rolo a toilet roll and then laugh hysterically while Rolo shreds it. When Thomas has his afternoon nap Rolos there giving him cuddles. It's lovely to watch!

My chi is around my 2 kids and he loves them! My kids are 5 & 2, and Crackers likes to cuddle them just as much as he cuddles me. As I type this right now my youngest is playing chase with him.

I generally only lurk these days but had to comment here because this stereotype drives me mad!

Chis and kids are fine together, in fact we just got number 4 chi for my daughters 9th birthday! At her birthday party the dogs were centre of attention, constantly had a different lap to sit on and had more fun than the kids!

We have two girls 9 & 7 and a son who is 5 and is Autistic and has high care needs and difficulty communicating. Only our oldest chi mix has a problem with our son, but she just keeps out of his way and she adores our girls. My heart dog, Yogi, is like a guardian to our son and can usually be found perched on the top of the couch watching over him while he plays

As others have said, supervision and education (both for the dogs and the kids) are the key to a happy and safe chihuahua/child relationship.

When I was pregnant with my twins, my OBGYN told me to get rid of my chi. They've grown up together. My chi is attached to me & tolerates them. She growls at them occasionally, but I tell her NO. Most of the time, one of my children are pestering my chi which makes her growl. She has snapped at them, but she knows I don't tolerate it. I've always watched my chi closely around them especially when they were little.

It comes down to exposure and training. As long as the chi is exposed to kids, well trained, and the kids know how to act around a chi, they get along well.

Toby adores children! The first time he met my goddaughter, I was reasonably nervous. He's always been good with kids, but he's never really been around them more than in passing, saying hello, etc. We went to lunch with my best friend and my goddaughter desperately wanted to hold him in her high chair. She was around 16 months old at the time. I sat really close to her with him in my lap. She was nicely petting him when all the sudden he stood up and gave her a big sloppy kiss. She giggled. Then they were best friends. He sat with her in her stroller and followed her while she crawled around. He adored her! I was proud.

Since then, he's been around her and several young children and been great. He still adores his Amelia, my goddaughter. She'll be two in December and when they last saw each other in August they were running to each other (well he was running, she was just learning to walk) like star crossed lovers.

I think that as long as the kids know boundaries and aren't torturing the dog and the dog is taught how to act, it will be fine. As with any dog, though, never leave the chi alone with the child.
