hi i havent been of for ages but i had my puppy lilly last year and she has just turned 1. i also have my rescue staffy prince.

quick question, do any of your chihuahuas live with children? only asking as i have a 10 year old stepdaughter and 2 year old (almost 3 )daughter and im due to have my 3rd daughter in december unless she joins us earlier. ive had loads of people tellng me i shouldnt have a chihuahua round my children and its really upsettin me.

Children and Chihuahuas can get along without any problem so long as you're careful and sensible (watch them together, dont let them pick the dog up etc). Of course it depends on the actual dogs themselves too but I know several people with children and chihuahuas. Mine love my nephew Jack who lives with us.

Rocky is actually my son's best friend! We got him this past summer at 4 mo old, and I am seeing such a positive change in my son. Rocky helps him cope with illness and health challenges, but he also loves all 3 of my kids.

You can train a dog to get used to baby sounds, behavior, etc. Beforehand... So start now.

Odie LOVES kids, especially babies (although I suspect it's because she can lick their faces and they can't get away). I wouldn't leave any breed of dog alone with a small child, and I would put a set of rules in place for kids that are old enough to understand (no picking up, no touching unless the dog invites it, etc.). My friend has 2 chis and small nieces and nephews and sometimes has an issue with the kids not leaving her dogs alone, so she has a rule that they're only allowed to play for so long and if the dogs aren't actively trying to play with them, then playtime is over.

On the dog, on the child and on the effort one is willing to put in.

2 of mine LOVE kids. One, not so much. She was never bothered nor tormented by kids, she is just jumpy and they move too quickly for her. She barks, scares them, they cry and she barks becasue their crying bothers her. She does not bite. Anyone. She is more afraid of them than anything.

If we had kids in the home I would do the work to create mutual respect and all would be well. Our grandkids are out of town so the visits to us are not frequent so not enough for anyone to get accustomed to anyone.

Yes Holly loves babies and kids well everyone. She was a puppy when around a newborn and babies. Zoe can be snippy around toddlers putting their hands up to her face they freak her out. She came to us at age 3 so I assume she was never around toddlers or one that was mean to her is all I can guess. She is great with older kids and babies that do not poke at her. So yes Chi's and kids can live together just get her used to one being around before baby comes. And teach little one to be careful later on picking them up etc.

Depends on the Chi and the kid. NEVER ever leave them alone with kids obviously.. kids can do some major damage.. especially babies and toddlers. My friend's toddler has tried to pick Izzie up by the neck and stuff. Izzie LOOOOVES kids. Like, seriously loves them. You gotta watch her around babies tho cuz she loves to give them kisses... sometimes it is way too much. Bella mainly just likes them once they can pet her and give her belly rubs and cuddle with her. Usually I don't allow kids under like 10 or so to hold them standing up. Or to pick them up and put them on their lap or whatever. Izzie is small and fragile and it doesn't take much for them to hurt her somehow. It will probably be different once we have our own kids and I teach them from a young age how to properly hold and pick up the Chis.

Mylo ADORES kids! If he sees people in the street he gets excited incase they'll come and pet him but if he sees kids he goes nuts! He gets so excited! If the kids are excitable so is he. If they're a bit tentative then he'll be calm and gentle with them. He goes to my sister's on a Friday and she has a 7 and 11 year old and both Mylo and Willow love them. They also love my other 7 year old niece. Mylo has met babies and toddlers upwards and has been great with them. I make sure they're supervised, careful and know the rules though. Mylo would never intentionally hurt anyone, especially a child. Both were brought up with young kids (Mylo's breeder had a 6yr old and 11yr old and they always had friends around. Willow's breeder had a 5yr old and 9yr old). As long ad you're sensible about it it can work very well
