Tums apparently is good to help relieve gas in dogs. I was told by my vet that tums is better than pepto for them

If your dog is allergic to chicken Fortiflora is not the best choice - the the ingredient labelled "animal digest" comes from chickens. I phoned the company to check on ingredients since my little guy gets bloody diarrhea from chicken and that is what they told me. It can be hard to find a digestive supplement that doesn't contain chicken. After a lot of searching I found one called "NaturVet Digestive Enzymes"

Digestive Enzymes with Prebiotics & Probiotics

This has really helped with both our chis tummy issues - no bloody diarrhea for the little guy since he started taking it a year ago and much less grumbly tummies from both of them. As a bonus it much cheaper than Fortiflora and I can buy it in our local pet store.

Also, if gas is the problem you can give them "Oval" (generic is simethicone), an anti gas medicine for babies available in the drugstore. Our vet told us that it is safe and almost impossible to overdose with it. We give about half the baby dropper.

Sorry to hear Midgie is having these difficulties...poor little munchkin....just a couple of suggestions...sulcrate needs to be given one before food/meds or 2 hours after food/meds as it binds with proteins and then will be ineffective for coating and soothing the gut....also if her motility is slowing down with the GI upset, raw food may be starting to rot in her gut...she may be better off not having the raw food while she is having GI issues.... **for all the raw feeders, please don't come after me...I have nothing against feeding a raw diet, but it is often contraindicated with GI problems **

Thanks Kathleen. I'm not feeding any raw. Strictly the ZP & a tiny bit of pumpkin. The vet said I could give with or without food. I'm feeding tiny meals with the meds because it's easier than shooving it down her throat. I guess I'll give it to her before she eats. How long should I wait to feed her if I give her the pill 1st thing in the morning? She seems to be doing better, but drinking a lot of water. I mix a little water with the ZP & I know ZP makes them thirsty, but not sure if the meds are also making her really thirsty.

Your right about the raw in this situation. Even tho my vet don't believe in raw, she's not against me feeding raw. She doesn't want me to feed it until her stomach gets better because she said the bacteria on the meat is aggrevating her stomach & not giving it time to heal. I was also irritating it with ACV.

If you are asking about the sulcrate it would need to be given 1 hour before other meds and food or 2 hours after food/meds....it coats the gut by binding to proteins on the surface of raw areas in the GI and acts like a soothing bandage..if there are other foods or meds the sulcrate will bind with that and then be ineffective for providing relief of GI discomfort...she probably is getting a lot of relief with the cerenia also....I frequently used the Ovol gtts with Bella...they really help move any gas out...I hope she has a quiet night..hugs to her.
