Here in America (likely elsewhere as well) we have gotten Christmas all turned around. We think it is about how much stuff you can buy, who has the biggest pile of gifts under the tree and that kids will not be happy unless they are opening gifts until noon.
WRONG!
It is about love, family, friends, kindness and sacrifice. NOT about going into debt or being burdened with a credit card bill until summer.
We both have jobs and I do not go all out on our dogs at Christmas.
There are plenty of dollar store clothes and toys if you want to get them each one thing. Heck, give them some frozen green beans as a treat or let them do things they might not normally do for Christmas.
Or if you have transportation, offer to volunteer at the rescue/shelter where you got them, in their honor, as their gift. I bought a toy "from" each of the girls and a bag of treats that I will take to our shelter next week. My girls are each getting one thing and it was something I bought and found where I keep their food and medicine and forgot that I bought!
It should be about time spent, NOT money spent. That is the value of Christmas!

Karen, I love what you said, I agree wholeheartedly. Material things do not
constitute happiness, they do not make us richer, and they definitely do not
represent what Christmas is all about. No matter how unfortunate we may think
our circumstances are, there is always going to be someone who is suffering
more, these are the people & animals that we should focus our efforts on.
Volunteering, donating, lending a hand or a shoulder, this is Christmas. And
hopefully we can carry on that spirit all through the year. Possessions don't
make us, don't define us, our ability to love, befriend, show compassion do.
And to our dogs, there is no greater joy than to eat a good meal, go on a
long walk and get a belly rub at the end of it all.
So Kaelynn, cheer up, focus on what you do have, instead of what you don't.
Focus on others, and you'll forget your own troubles. Hugs.

Yikes, I'm so sorry. "A lawsuit waiting to happen"? Geesh!
It's fun to give our little ones gifts, but it doesn't really matter in the end. They're going to love and adore you whether you have fancy new toys for them or not.
I agree with what all has been said here- your unconditional love for them is the greatest gift you could possibly give them. Their Christmas will already be special.

I am also having horrible money problems. I wanted to be part of the secret Santa but it was impossible due to this. I will definately be giving my chihuahua a gift though, but I think I am going to make things rather than actually buy. She needs a sweater so I am making one out of an old pretty scarf I had. Its so simple to make your baby something to "unwrap"...there are even doggy treat recipies and toys you can make. You can look it up online there are thousands of sites.
Don't feel badly, your dog knows how much you care, but doesnt recognise whether you have gone and spent money or not.

Hope things improve for you in the new year...but for the chihuahuas, I agree...they don't need pricey toys...lots of hugs and a bit of homemade cookie and they will feel like royalty !
