I have 2 horses and just about everyday Ava comes outside with me while I feed them. She typically follows my every move (I do make sure I keep her a safe distance from the horses). I went inside the barn to get their feed and Ava stopped outside to use the bathroom, I assumed she would run back to me when she was finished. Whenever I was done preparing the horses food I walked out of the barn to see that Ava was nowhere to be found! I instantly start panicking thinking she ran into the woods which I live right by. So I'm running around the yard calling her trying to find her, I live on 7 1/2 acres so I had a rather difficult time spotting her! After being about ready to burst into tears I start running towards the house to get my phone. What I was going to do with it, I don't know. LOL. Anyways, as I approach the door I see Ava patiently sitting in front of the door waiting for me to finish and let her inside. What a relief! I picked her up and gave her lots of love! I guess she just didn't want to be outside today, the weather was nice too! Just thought I would share this experience because I'm sure everyone on here understands and has probably had a scare for their chi's safety as well. Thanks for reading!

Definitely! I'm sure we can all empathise with you! What a good girl she is waiting by the door for you. You obviously have her well trained. How nice it must be to live on such a big property. I love horses and miss having one or being near them. I'd love to see pictures of your horses.

My family's chi mix is 10 years old. Since she was a pup she has been sooo good. There have been several times over the years where she has either been accidentally locked outside or got out. Each time, we've found her sitting on the front porch.

Once, when our beagle was alive, he dug a hole out of the yard. I saw him running out of my bedroom window and ran to chase him down. I didn't know Lilly was also outside. When I got back to the house with Buddy (thank goodness he was slow!), she was sitting on the front porch wagging her tail. She really has no interest in going anywhere!

Now Toby got out once. I had to lure him out of the road with a French fry. Lol. He was a baby and doesn't do that anymore, but I don't 100% trust him.

Haha!! I know that type of scare! So glad Ava's alright!! Midgie shadows me everywhere all the time, so much that sometimes I don't see her right at my feet & start yelling for her only to find her looking up at me like what cha want mommy!

You're absolutely right Tiffani, I too have had a few scares! Even though they all respect the boundaries well, they don't protect against intruders and we, too, are surrounded by woods! Every time I've ever had a scare with Kahlua, she has always turned up right behind me. Still, it's nerve-wracking. Very glad that Ava knew right where to go! =D

Thank you everyone for the support! Yes, I was so proud that she knew to go to the door, looks like I under estimated her training! I will definetaly post some pics of my horses for everyone! I hope Ava continues to only run to the door and not off in the woods, even more terrifying is we live right by the interstate, all that's keeping the dogs from getting there is some trees and a crappy fence! Boss enjoys running off so I always keep him leashed or in his play area while he is outside, I'm always so scared he'll run off and right onto the interstate! Ugh. *shivers*. Maybe Ava can teach him her ways
I have had times where I would start calling Ava to find her by my feet as well LOL she must think I'm crazy. I never knew I could love something so small so much

So sorry Ava scared you, but so thankful she was waiting for you at the door like a good girl. You are right--who knew we could love such small creatures sooooo much!!!!

Douglas got away once in the middle of the night while we were walking. We had no idea what happened, he usually sticks SO close when off lead.

We searched and searched and finally went home for a while to make ads about him. I had all but given up hope and was crying on the couch at 1 AM when he showed up at the front door, minus his coat and very cold.

So glad your girly is safe!
