I just noticed that Charlie face is really swollen and I'm not sure why. do you think it could be an alergy he plays with the cats allot. I'm also thinking maybe his eye got scratched or maybe a tooth problem. He's not sick at all eating normally and playing constantly he just has a very swollen face. do you think I should try some antihistimens and see if that helps I have some that I got from the vet when he had a reaction to his shots. heres a picture please tell me what you think.
Can't really tell by the pics because they're blurry. I would wait about an hour & see if the swelling goes down. If it looks like it's getting worse, I would try an antihistamine. Might he have got stung by something? Is his eye swollen? What does his gums look like? If there really pale, it could be a reaction to something. If it's just the one side of his face & no where else on his body, might just be a sting. or he could have bumped it.
yes its really hard to get a good picture when he wont hold still. Taz keeps trying to lick Charlies eye area i think there might be a scratch under his eye. Its just one side of his face that why i'm not sure what is going on his gums are nice and pink and his teeth look good I hate it when things like this happen and i dont know what it is. I'm also thinking it might be a spider bite we seem to have quite a few around thiese days we live in the wilderness pretty much so theres lots of things it could be. If it is some kind of bug bite I think antihistimenes would help him most
My Fox terrier's face was like that a few years ago and it was an abscess (sp) tooth. She has to get it pulled. Also it could be an infection from the cats claws.
If you think the eye is scratched or it's a spider bite, I'd take him to the vet. A scratched eye is serious. So many dogs loose their eyes because of eye injuries. Being a pup, he can't tell you he's in pain. Best to be safe & get it checked out. Antihistamines won't help a scratch. Not sure about a spider bite.
We had an episode a while back where I came home from work at 3am to hubby up & thinking Matilda had a bad case of fleas because she was digging herself raw (men!!). One look at her & I could tell that she was swollen on her neck & one side of her face and she was covered in hives. I got it down with some benadryl but we went to the vet the next day because it would not stop coming back. Initially we thought she'd gotten bitten by a bug but I do believe now it was a sudden allergy to lamb. She'd been eating the same food pretty much (we do throw other things in here/there) for a year and swelling is not a typical food allergy symptom. But every time I give her lamb she gets the itchies now so...that is what I've chalked it up to be.
I would think a reaction like that would be something like a bite/sting. That is the most common explaination. Try to keep benadryl into him every 8hrs but honestly...if it doesn't get significantly better like asas I'd take him in. Sometimes it takes a steriod to really kick in. I hope he's back to his normal self soon!
I don't think his the eye itself is scratched i can see a small mark just under his eye but not the eye itself. i don't think its his teeth either not the way he's been gobbleing down his food latley if his mouth hurt he would not be eating much. I don't think he's in pain because I can touch around the area thats swollen and it doesn't bother him Charlie has no tollarance for pain and if it hurt you can bet he would be crying like a baby. I have to go to town this afternoon so I'll take him with me and get the vet to take a quick look at him. I don't think its serious though because he's still acting and doing everything he always does he's running and playing eating and having all kinds of fun like every other Chi pup he has endless energy to burn. If it was bothering him you can bet he would be wanting attention from me and woould be asking me to help but he's not he's off running around playing with the cats and Taz like he does everyday

I wonder if it might be this new canned food he eating he absolutly loves it and he's so fussy so I was pleased he's been eating so well but now that you mention it i'm thinking that that might be what it is as well.
