It breaks my heart seeing those dogs.
I'm glad you spoke up to those people. I thought every one of those dogs were adorable. Last time I made a similar trip to the shelter, I DID end up bringing someone home. I didn't pick her because she was the cutest, but because she was so darn sweet and she got along with Stella. Her personality makes her cute.

If I had picked out the dog I thought was prettiest, I don't think it would have worked out. He was a sweet, well behaved dog, but I don't think we "clicked". Plus, he was too high energy to fit my lifestyle. So what good would it have done me to go just by looks? I didn't get a head turner, but I still got a wonderful companion.

story made my eyes teary. Your dogs are lucky to have you. You have it figured
out...what really matters that is.

I can't even... people are something and I don't even know anymore. I am just exhausted on this subject and it makes my heart hurt. But- one thing people don't think about is shoe boxes. A lot of shelters take shoe box donations for the cats/kittens to use as beds, I always drop mine off after I buy shoes.

Last year since we bought Jaxx we donated food, blankets, and cleaning supplies to our local shelter. Since Jaxx was our Christmas present we wanted to make sure that we gave to dogs that were not so lucky.
Hubby and I had just been talking that we wanted to donate items again this year and I told him Jaxx was going to give up some of his old toys too. We plan on going to Petsmart or Petco tomorrow and picking up some food to donate and then grab some old blankets and some cleaning supplies to to our shelter.

I am really glad you said something LS! No pet is perfect and them saying something about a pet that has been through very rough times it is just sad.

I worked at the SPCA in highschool for 2 years it was sad and happy I saw tons of stuff cried a lot! So many of them got put to sleep because they couldn't be adopted out due to fear biting etc there was no one to take them as fosters to work with them truly truly sad. How anyone could abuse an animal or give them up is crazy in my eyes no matter how perfect/unperfect mine are they are all loved equally and I would never give them up for the world.

I love that on this forum we have so many people that are responsible and
caring towards their animals...it's heartbreaking that not all pet owners are

for those in need, and wish there were more people like you...the world would

Those dogs are beautiful! I'd definitely take all of them home if I could....

My work office is awesome and we held a warm things and food donation drive for a local women's shelter AND the local humane society for Thanksgiving. Tons of people poured in a bunch of much-needed things for both groups. It was my department that spearheaded the donation drive, and I volunteered to drop off the items to the humane society because it's a really short drive from my house.

OMG, if I could I would have brought home EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THOSE AMAZING FOUR-LEGGED LOVE BUNDLES. Ahhh... Just thinking about it makes me get all teary-eyed. Roxie seemed to love all of the dogs - even the huge ones! But I was seriously thinking of adopting an affenpinscher/chihuahua mix that seemed love Roxie back equally. Sadly, I can't adopt another pup until I move to a bigger place...

Maybe, if any of you go to into work in offices regularly, you can start a donation drive yourself! Most people in offices are awesome, and you can give out candy as little thank-yous to your officemates.
