Exclamation ~Who Cares What The Dog Looks Like!~

As I return from my local shelter, after dropping off some blankets and dog food,
my insides are turned upside down, my heart's aching...I can not help but shed
tears for the poor souls behind the cage bars. They are all good dogs, there at
no fault of their own. Each one so different from the other, yet all want the
same thing...someone to take them home. Some dogs were scared, others
barked, others whined, and others seemed to have life sucked out of them, big
sad eyes, eyes that were once happy but no longer look forward to anything.
These dogs are not broken, they are hurt, all they need is some tlc. I wish
I could have taken them all home, literally all of them. It saddened and
disgusted me to hear a couple next to me speak negatively about how the
dogs looked. They were criticizing the Chihuahua mix pup, calling it a rat,
another dog for having a floppy ear, another they simply called ugly and said
that all of the dogs there "have something wrong with them". I could not control
my mouth, and said to them "Aren't you here to save a life?" They both got
quiet and walked away. Who are we as people to criticize how a dog looks?
Are we all perfect ourselves? These dogs look the way they do due to either
irresponsible breeders, accidents, or simply life. None of them can change
the way they look. Why can't we simply look into their soul, look at their
character, look into those sad eyes that are aching for love. All dogs are
beautiful, all, we the people are the ones that are at times ugly because we
dare to judge. It's ok to desire a certain type of dog, for example an active
dog, or a small dog, or an older dog....to suit your lifestyle, to ensure it is a
good match for both parties....but to judge dogs that are up for adoption, call
them names, laugh at them...to me that's unacceptable. Lets not forget that
the purpose of a dog is to be your friend...not your shiny possession, and who
cares if your friend has a floppy ear?

Please my friends take a look through your closets, if you have an old blanket
or some toys your dog doesn't use, or even some detergent to spare, take
it down to your local shelter. You might not be in a position to adopt right
now, but donating supplies also helps.

I was upset at the time so I did not film a lot, but here are some of the dogs
that were being criticized...they all look beautiful to me. The first chocolate
one is a Chihuahua mix, I thought I filmed it for longer, turns out I didn't, you
can pause on 0.00 seconds to see it, it's a sweet Chi, does not look like a rat
to me.

Awww those poor sweet guys! That one doesn't look like a rat, he looks like a chiweenie! I think that people like that like the idea of owning a dog, and nothing more. Odie is donating all of her less played with toys and a blanket this year. One thing the SPCA here always needs is bleach. I always just go right to the counter and drop off my donation and leave. Unfortunately I can't stand to visit with any of the animals. We adopted both of our cats from the SPCA and I couldn't help but bring home an extra cat! Then I had to find it a home. I'm terrible.

That's awesome! I wish I could find somewhere that had something like that. We have one pet store where you can buy an extra can of food to donate and I always do that, but nothing like a box. Our SPCA doesn't accept food anymore because they're sponsored. I donate all of our unwanted treats to my friend's mastiff who eats anything!

I think every single one of those dogs where just gorgeous I would have wanted to take every one of them home as well. I've adopted my share of dogs from shelters over the year one of the best dogs iever had came from a high kill shelter He was a Border Collie American Collie Cross he looked like a Black and white Lassie. He was just a puppy when I first saw him and he only had 4 days before he would be put down he was only 3 1/2 months old I was there looking for a small dog but I couldn't get this pup off my mind I phoned the shelter the night before he was to be put down to see if anybody had adopted him and they said no. I asked what time he would be put down the next day and they said usually right after breakfast. so the next morning I raced down there at 8am when they opened and adopted this puppy. I called him Destiny because it was obviously meant to be. I had him for 15 yrs he passed away about 3 yrs ago he was a great dog and so so smart. My daughter has another dog that I adopted from a shelter I adopted it for her when she still lived at home. When we got him he was a mess soso sad and bald from having fleas so bad and he was alergic to them but that was the dog she wanted When she moved out she took Max with her he's getting really old now and has had a couple of strokes but she loves him so much and he keeps coming back and getting better so she says she will just wait and she will know when he wants to go. There is no such a thing as a bad dog only a bad owner. I give to our local shelter when I can those animals need all the help they can get. I too just drop my donation and leave other wise i would have way to many pets its bad enough that I already have 7 animals thats my limit. as much as i love them all I can't afford anymore.

It warms my heart to know you ladies help out and donate.
You know when my hubby is the one to drop off the donations
he just leaves them at the table they have in the front. But
when I'm the one to go I always take a look at the dogs,
because at times I know people looking to buy/adopt a
certain dog, so I pass the message along if I see one that
they might be interested in. The shelter does have a site
where they post dogs available, but it is never up to date.
Yes it breaks my heart to see the dogs, but I put up with
it in hopes that I can help at least one of them find a home.

And yes Krystal, bleach helps too, the items donated don't
necessarily have to be dog related, as I mentioned earlier
detergent is always needed, so are pens, paper, towels, etc.
I donate a lot of blankets and toys and see them being used
so that makes me happy. Time is another good thing to donate,
clean cages, walk dogs, play with the cats, etc.

I recently donated tons of food that crackers wouldn't eat and I didn't want to throw away or store. I couldn't go in and see the babies or I would have cried and came home with lots more pups.

Yes Holly, it's definitely very hard.

Kudos to you for donating food, small gestures mean a lot.
