Coo, you girls weren't wrong when you said some bully sticks smell. Got him some different ones as they were out of stock on the site I was going to use. They REEK!! Bleurgh! No snogs for Rolo when he's had that in his chops!
He munched yours Rach, tried to get some from the site you mentioned but were out of stock so got some from a seller on Amazon. Won't be getting those ones again! They're burning my nostrils and I got 8 of the damn things! Lol
Yeah zooplus only had big ones, I wanted littlies for Rolo. I suppose I will get used to it, I do live in a house full of stinky boys, I have 2 stinky sons still at home so it will grow on me!
Haha yes the smell is pretty alarming! And also pretty... specific. If I get really high odor ones, Odie actually isn't as interested in them. Such a diva.
Expensive, but PetCo Unleashed's I And Love And You brand has odor-free ones. I don't buy them so I can't vouch for them, but I don't notice a smell with the regular ones either.
oh! MY solution to the stink is to only feed bully sticks when I take a shower. (Douglas won't chew anything when I am gone so when I leave he just stares at them)
I'm not allowed to give the dog bones or bullies on the carpet or furniture. The bathroom floor is perfect and I don't have to get too close haha. Keeps him occupied, he likes shower time.
You get used to them. When Toby got his first one I thought I was going to throw up. Now, it's just another smelly thing for the dog, LOL.
Some smell worse than others- it really depends on where you get them. The ones from Petsmart and Petco are, in my opinion, SUPER stinky. Bestbullysticks.com is good, but IDK if they ship to the UK.
I dont really notice the smell TBH.....except when little Alfie decides he must chew his bullystick whilst sitting on my chest and hits me in the face with the gummy end!
Bleurgh!!!
I got one for Butterbean. She's not quite done with it yet, but it makes her breath stink so horribly that I'll never get another. Fortunately, she seems to prefer pig ears, which aren't nearly as bad in that regard.
I get mine from zooplus and they don't really smell. I hear that dogs prefer the stinky ones though. What do you think? I hate when they come near my face after chewing on a hoof or beef gullet. I can smell it on their fur. Urgh! The pig's ears I got smelled bad but the cow ears I got from pets at home didn't smell at all. They were bigger and cheaper than the pig's ears they had for some reason. There are loads of great natural chews on zooplus.
I got pizzles from zooplus too and they are low odour. My girls love them. I get all my furkid stuff from zooplus, cheapest prices on the web. Fantastic..:love4:
I got some of the new USA made with USA beef ones from best bully sticks and they do reek. My mom sent the dogs 12" braided ones and I got a 50 pack of 12 inch regular I split with two friends (it save a lot of money doing it that way). They smell really strong! The problem is that they are the only ones I can find that are USA made with USA cattle. And even most products are not like that on best bully sticks so my selection is limited.
You know what the most disgusting thing is though? My husband misses living in the country with cattle and loves the smell!!! It makes him feel like he is in a feedlot and he likes it. EEEWWWWWW
Ugh! Same here! The worst for me is stuffed cow hooves, barf! Or the skinny piggy pizzles, when they get all soggy and limp... ewwwwwwww. The thicker bully sticks, ligaments, throat, ears, ect. are not as bad usually but of course Ro likes me to hold them for him, and will keep pushing them into my hand from different angles trying to get me to. Slimy, stinky, and sooooo grossss! He loves his US made animal product chews so much though, I don't have the heart to take them away. Lol
We have had a few that smell really yummy, some meat chews and training treats that smell like sausage. I will admit a few times when I have been hungry, my mouth may have started to water... and there were some human grade oreo type cookies my husband ate having no idea they were for the dogs. He just thought they were low sugar, snobby, organic cookies, but other wise ate 4 before he realized there was a picture of a dog on the box. Hahaha
Freeze them first - I get lots and stick them in my dog food freezer - when you take them out they don't smell half as bad
