I use coconut oil for everything! I buy the unrefined oil which is a bit more expensive, but it has a wonderful, creamy texture and a slightly sweet, coconut taste. I cook with it, stir it in my oatmeal, use it as as an extra hand treatment in this cold weather when my hands get chafed.

It gives my dogs the runs unfortunately when I add it to their food, even little bits (they're only 3.5 pounds so it doesn't take much!) so I've taken to rubbing it on my hands for its softening effects, then letting the dogs lick my hands They will lick any kind of lotion off my hands, legs, face etc., so I figure why not? It will put a small amount into their systems, not so much that it loosens their stool, but at least enough to do them some good. They each get a hand to lick.

Can I ask everyone what type of food you are feeding and what coconut oil you use as well?

Completely personal choice. Some say there is no such thing as too much fish oil
or coconut oil. As I said just watch your dog, if there are no loose stools then
give it daily if you wish. I personally give fish oil twice per week and coconut oil
twice per week, so four days out of the week they get oils. For us that's plenty,
they all have amazing coats, supple skin, great teeth, nails, etc.

I also feed just a pea sized amount and only about once a week. I also rotate it with their fish oil.

I buy Nutiva or Garden of Life. Organic and I found them to be cheaper than those packaged/marketed specific to pets. One of my grocery stores has a huge natural section and I can get it there although I can get it cheaper through Amazon online or on vine.com when I am ordering their food. I can get free shipping both places.
