Hey everyone! Got some coconut oil today from my holistic pet store for Boss and Ava. It does have serving size directions which I can easily follow for Boss. But for Ava, I'm not so sure what amount to give her. The directions say 1tsp for every 15-20 pounds. So for her, how much should I give? She is 3 1/2 pounds.

EDIT: The texture is somewhat creamy, like a whipped yogurt or something. Should I melt it down to make it a liquid or just stir the mousse like texture in with their food?

Tiffani, what I do is simply put a drop into the palm of my hand, the warmth of
the hand melts it, and simply let the pup lick it right out of your hand. If there
are leftovers simply apply them to your knees or elbows, they'll be soft like a
baby's bottom!

I just try to get about pea sized amount for Star and put it on top of her food, because she eats that first anyway. I give it to her every other day. Her and Ava weighs about the same.

So they really don't need much then? I thought about giving her 1/2tsp would that be too much?

It depends on the dog, how their tummy handles it. Some get loose stools.
So start slow and if you see your pup tolerates it well then you can increase
the amount a bit. I personally only give it twice per week, tiny amounts from
my palm.

Are you giving it 2x weekly as a personal choice or is it not safe to give as a daily supplement?

Can I ask what the coconut oil does for the dog? I've never heard if giving a dog coconut oil, but then again, I've only been a dog owner for 6 and a half months now so I am sure there are loads of things I haven't heard of! LOL
