So I need to make a harness each for the new girls, but am unsure which style to go for. Neither have been walked on a lead, Mouse isn't even used to wearing a collar, Delilah is more comfortable in a collar but much more anxious when outside. So I want a style that will make them feel secure, and be escape-proof in case they panic.
I can't afford to buy anything right now and I don't sew (apart from straight lines!) so vest types are not an option.
I make them out of very fine nylon webbing, which I have in 1/2", 3/4" and 1" widths. I would usually use the 1/2" for a small dog, but was wondering if using some wider webbing might be better for these girls.
I was thinking either step-in like this:

Or traditional Roman harness like this:

Obviously I can make tweaks so it suits them better. Any suggestions much appreciated.
