Ruby has started putting the loose end of her collar in her mouth. She's not chewing on it, simply holding it and then walking around or curling up with it in her mouth. Yesterday she was demanding belly rubs, after I started she grabbed the collar and just lay there with it in her mouth while I rubbed her belly.

It almost looks like a comfort thing at times. Any thoughts?

Maybe she wants a pacifier?
If she's not chewing it, maybe it is some sort of comfort thing. I have dogs that just carry stuffies round, maybe this is just easier for her. It's cute. As long as she can't strangle or hang herself, I guess it's ok.

My dog Roxy does the same thing she has a charm heart on hers and she carries it around all the time she would be lost if I took her collar off lol

She'll often carry her toys around too, especially at bed time, and when I give her a biscuit she'll carry that around the house for 10mins before eating it. Hahahaha

This is the first collar she's ever done this with, but it's also the first one that I haven't been able to put the end through the second ring to keep it out of the way. I'm pretty sure she won't be able to hurt herself doing it.

Douglas does this too! He'll mouth fingers also if they are in reach.

I just ordered her some new collars on eBay, they're the clip type instead of the buckle type. I'm wondering if maybe I should by her a dummy (thats Aussie for pacifier, if anyone was wondering what on earth I was talking about!) seeing as she won't be able to hold the end of the new collars in her mouth anymore. LOL
