I know for a fact that my Chihuahu's parents were both full blooded Chihuahuas. They were both registered with papers.
However, I think that Tinky may be over Six pounds so I'm a bit confused....

Not true. Chi's come in all shapes and sizes. A chi can be AKC registered purebred and be 15 pounds. It just depends on the breeding behind them. And no, AKC is not a guarantee of quality.

No. The standard for a chi is 2-6 pounds. However, there are plenty of chis that don't meet the standard and are over 6 pounds. They are just not to standard, doesn't mean they aren't pure bred.
If you 'show' your chi in AKC events that dog would be disqualified because of the weight. That is what your 'friend' is thinking of? Most of the chi's are NOT the akc weight. 2 of my 3 are not. One is 6.5#'s, One is 8.5#'s and one is 3.7#'s. They are all akc registered.
