Sometime things just don't work out. A safe environment needs to be provided for all. Some Chi's do better in all adult homes. Best wishes to you in your decision. I'm sure you'll do what's best. xxx

This terrifies me. I'm trying for a baby this year and, with our 5 chis, it's a daunting prospect. We have 2 males that HATE everyone except for us and close family. I do worry that the naughtiest one would be VERY difficult if we had a baby. He can be very aggressive and has attacked many of our guests. Not badly, but those little nips sure do hurt! We are very lucky to have a house that spans many rooms so I think maybe we could get away with separation if a baby was around. I don't know. I totally get your struggle as I have thought of the situation many times. Very scary and sad.

Maybe it will be better because the baby will have you and your husband's smell on it so he'll recognize that it is part of y'all?
My pitbull was like that, and it was a concern we had when I brought my preemie son home five years ago. He sniffed him and from that moment on no one was allowed around my son without going through the pitbull first. He knew who he was from the start, and he protected him like he would me.

I'm so sorry to hear this - but you are doing the right thing for your children and for Chi Chi.

Years ago we had a cavalier dog, he was totally easy going and harmless, my then 5 yr old daughter decided to train him to jump over a low bamboo stick and when he would she would reward him with a treat which she had piled the other side of the stick. Well he got clever and went around the stick and ate the treats. She went over to him and put her hand into his mouth as he was mid chew to get the treats out and you know the rest he chomped on her finger!

We had to bring her to hospital for stitches to her finger - but from the moment we arrived we were quizzed on the "dog bite" - I think every dog bite here is reported - we had a real job convincing numerous staff that it was not a "dog bite" - that she put her hand into his mouth as he was chewing. I think if it was a bite - we would have been under pressure to have him put down.

I don't know if it's the same where you live - but for the children's sake and for Chi Chi's sake - he probably is better off in an adult house.

The three dogs I have now are not used to children at all, as mine have all grown - and I can see when we have children visitors that the dogs are nervous of these small fast unpredictable creatures.

I know for a fact it's like this in Ontario, my parents bred and raised Poodles when I was a child and one of them bit my brother, and at the hospital there was an inquiry and animal control was invlolved and there was a possibility he would have to be put down, it was standard for dog bites at that time.. my parents being experienced were able to speak to animal control and explain the circumstances and the dog was spared. (he did not live with us and was a stud of another breeder! but my parents never used that dog again)

THis is what he did to my two year old's face today for no reason at all. Inside her lip is tore up as well. I have no choice now, he has to go live somewhere else.

Yep I would not wait another minute, this is probably why someone got rid of him on Craigslist to start with

Omg Misty, that's scary! I just got my first Chi. She is 8 weeks old. I am trying really hard to only have her chew on toys and be as mellow as possible around my kids (3&5yrold). When she starts to get too hyper I either have my girls go play in another room or put Zoe in her crate.
I really hope she doesn't ever bite one if my girls! My husband would flip out!
