Maybe it will be better because the baby will have you and your husband's smell on it so he'll recognize that it is part of y'all?
My pitbull was like that, and it was a concern we had when I brought my preemie son home five years ago. He sniffed him and from that moment on no one was allowed around my son without going through the pitbull first. He knew who he was from the start, and he protected him like he would me.
