I am SUPER excited! We have been working with Jaxx for a while now on not running when we go to pick him up. Thanks to Karen's (Jesuschick) suggestion we started telling Jaxx when we were going to pick him up instead of just trying to chase him down. It has gotten so much better over the past couple months. Today though I told him I was going to pick him up and he turned his bum towards me and just waited. He has always done this when we were picking him off of the furniture but when we were standing up he has never done this. Even recently although it has gotten better it was still not great to pick him up.
I was so proud when I told him I was going to pick him up and Jaxx just turned his bum towards me and sat down and waited to pick him up.
It sounds kind of silly but I am so proud of him and it is so much easier than chasing him around the room for 5 minutes if I want to take him somewhere.
Thank you so much Karen! I never thought Jaxx would be that easy to pick up and had been told it was because he wasn't from a great breeder and we would never train him not to run. I am SOOO happy and so proud of Jaxx.

That's great news! I'm so pleased he's improving with this! I've not experienced it with Max but he has his own issues that we are working on and I know the feeling of happiness when you start to see it paying off!

That's great! I've been following Karen's advice as well, and it's so exciting the times that it actually works! But sometimes saying "pick up" makes her run faster! Ah well, work in progress...

Really? Someone told you that you wouldn't be able to teach him something because he had a poor breeder?? Silly silly people! Prove that person wrong!

My boy likes to be picked up, but has shown fear very rarely (probably due to some imperceptible body language that reminds him of abuse) and will pee. I might start telling him and see if it helps.

A friend that works in a vet's office told me that I was wasting my time because Jaxx running was because he was not treated well before we got him during those first vital weeks. He is so smart and learns everything so fast I was determined to teach him this too. I cannot wait until she sees that Jaxx learned not to run and even turns around to be picked up!
