Poor Prince. Some of you may recall my post this past week about Prince squirming out of my arms. I basically dropped him accidentally from chest height. Today the pups were eating and I glanced over. Prince was up on four legs and literally fell over sideward and rolled onto his back (literally dropped straight sideways). He was choking on food. I scooped him up and madly tried to remember how to do a doggie himlac for choking. He cleared it himself after which he did a little foamy throw up. He laid down for about 10 minutes (seemed dazed) and then sat on my lap and watched TV. He seems absolutely fine now. I believe he choked on these little dental nuggets I give him with his Ziwipeak. I give him a nugget or two with every meal as recommended by my vet.

If you don't know the procedure for choking and you have a little one or two you love, please take the time to look it up. I was seriously beside myself during this incident. If something happened to him, I would be beside myself. Picking up while he was choking was heart wrenching!

I have thought about that from time to time! "what would I do if Angel was choking?" You are right, I should keep it handy!

I am so glad Prince is ok! You made me think about what I would do if Lupita was choking. Panic! I am gonna look that up and put it on my fridge so it is in plain sight. Thank you!

It definitely happened quick. He is fine now and we even walked around the block. However, in the moment it was simply a horrid feeling.

I know that feeling of panic. Not related to chi's but 2 of my human kids did it, first one put a plastic ring in his mouth while we were driving along, he was only about 18 months at the time. I remember glancing in the mirror and he was blue. I didn't even know he had the ring. Second time my other son picked up a penguin wrapper off the floor that one of the others had dropped and just put it in his mouth and sucked the whole lot down his throat. He was only about 6 months old. It's horrible. You go into a complete panic driven auto-pilot state. Both times I managed to get the item up but it must be awful with a small dog as you can't tip them over your lap and wallop them between the shoulder blades or be too rough incase you hurt them. I'm in a cold sweat now and will be looking up how to stop small dogs choking!
