I always let the pets sleep with me. When the ferrets were free roam they both curled up on me, along with the dog.

Now it's the cat and the dog. (kitty didn't like being bothered by the ferrets at night)

They love it, and I am a lonely, depressed person who has very few friends, so to be able to go to sleep and not be totally alone is a comfort. It doesn't have negative effects on our relationship and seems to make us all closer, so I don't see why not!

Back when I lived with my parents their Chi use to always sleep with me. When I moved out on my own only had large dogs (a Doberman and a lab mix). I tried slowing them to sleep with my bf and I, but even with a king size bed they made it very difficult for me to sleep. Seemed like I was constantly being awoken because they were stealing the covers, or crowding me. So unfortunately we no longer allow them in the bed. They each have their own bed right next to our bed. They seem content with that. I do plan on letting Bell sleep with me, but I'd like to wait until she is a little older. She's getting pretty good with the house training, but I think if she knew I wasn't paying attention to her all night she might have an accident in the bed. I do like having a little cuddle buddy though, I can't wait until I can start letting her sleep in bed with us.

I use to have shi tzu dog that always slept with me, but it was a bit of a bother as he would wake me up several times a night. When He passed at age 16, I told myself that if I ever got another dog, he would sleep in his own bed. When I brought Fonzie home at 11 weeks old and put him in his crate, he acted like a little angel. From the first night he never cried at bedtime so I thought I would never have a sleeping problem. Then the weather changed and I had to start using the heat. Since I keep my house on the cool side, I would cover him with a blanket and cover his crate with a down comforter but when I would get up to let him potty, I would find him on top of covers and cold. This went on for three nights. Guess What!!! I now have a new bed mate. So much for never saying never.

All the responses here to our initial posting make me feel a bit better: we are not the Crazy Old Dog People. At this point I am not afraid of rolling over on Simcha and injuring him, and I am not worried about fleas, ticks and lice in our bed. Of equal importance, Ruth and I are convinced that her asthma is not affected by the closeness of all that dog fur overnight.

Looking forward, our son, daughter-in-law, ten year old grandson, twelve year old granddaughter and currently 10 week old Brady, a rescue of indeterminate heritage whom they adopted just two days ago, will be visiting in about 6 weeks. The adventure will perhaps be made easier by the ability to put Simcha in our bedroom overnight. While not the subject of our original posting, any advice about how to introduce an adult Chi mix to a puppy who will likely be somewhat larger than he is certainly welcome. Pray for the sanctity of our wall to wall carpeting.

Yes, guilty of the same! Although they are also crate trained (we did that first, so that they always sense the crate as a "safe house"), they are permanently installed in our bed! They sleep better, we sleep better - wouldn't have it any other way!

I actually just started to sleep with Lola a few nights ago. She is so little I barely notice her. I have to say I do enjoy early morning cuddles.
