Default For all you who show your dogs I need advice .PLEASE

Well as most of you know I am interested in showing dogs. I have spoken to Helen Banister (uk chi judge) and she said that I was best buying a older pup, up to 1 yr old as you will know whether they are good show dog or not? she was selling one of hers for 1000 pounds that had already qualified for crufts 2006 but I can't afford that this year.
What do you all think? Should I look for a older pup?
All advice on what to look for would be gratefully received.
Also should I go for a long coat? I just adore Brooke ? Does this just mean more grooming in a long coat?
Thanks

It is true the best is to get an older dog. The dog is grown and you can tell what faults are there. As for us who get pups those faults have not all come to a head. Anything from 6 months on breeder should be able to tell if it is show worthy.Males are much easier for first timers if the dog is from a good breeder they wont give up females. Do NOT Go for Co Ownership. Be patient and don't rush. It is not easy getting a show pup from an ethical show breeder, study the lines in the pedigrees. get yourself to local shows or matches and get to know the breeders. You must prove yourself to them. They dont want you taking their dogs and using them as studs or bitches to breed and sell pups. Ethical show breeders are extremely protective of their dogs. Take notes. The best shows to go to are the Chihuahua specialties. you can locate those by searching the chihuahua club in your area.IE: Chihuahua club of America Nothing but chi's Unless you go to an AB= ALL breed and there are chi entries. And most of ALL good luck.
