Hello!

I was wondering what everyone thinks of puppies that aren't AKC, but other registered kennel clubs such as CKC, UKC, APRI etc.

I'd ask myself why they can't be AKC registered. But then again I'm not from US, so I don't know much about your registration system. I only know that when European breeders decide to import from US, they always import AKC puppies as only they can get our FCI pedigrees and qualify for dog shows and breeding.

This is just my personel opinion but I would not buy a dog that is registered with another club. Just because a girl that I met had a chi/maltese mix and she told me since it looks like a chi and she couldn't register it with AKC as a chi she went through CKC and ACA and got it registered in both as a chi. I just don't trust those other clubs. AKC might not be that good to some people but IMO it is a lot better than those other clubs. I am not trying to say that if anyones dog is registered something else is not just as good as any other dog because I love all chi's. I guess for me I prefer AKC because I think if I am gonna pay a fortune for a dog it better have AKC papers, a certified pedigree, a vet exam, and shots. If it is something like $50 then I don't care if it is registered at all as long as I love the dog.(that is why I have Belle she is my little baby mutt)

I am looking at a puppy that is UKC and Continental Kennel Club registered, has all his shots, I have seen pics of his parents and have talked extensively to the breeder. I also have two certified mutts, LOL. I was just wondering why the other clubs aren't as well known or accepted too.

I was actually wondering how come you have so many clubs? We only have FCI (Federation Cynologique Internationale) http://www.fci.be/
and that is actually the only club you can register your dog in EU. It's probably equivalent to KC (in UK) and AKC (in US).

CKC is ok so long as you do the reaserch as you CAN register any dog that looks like a chi as a chi so long as you provide pictures and 2 sigs saying this dog is a chi...so be VERY wary with ckc but of the others its one of the better registries...APRI is a registy that recognizes desighner breeds so sty clear of that...infact stay clear of ANY registry that ecognizes the "desgihner breeds' like maltipoos and ladradoodles pomchis and other such...

id say stick with akc or ckc but avoid others...

vixie is 8th generation AKC and 4th CKC registerd...dodger is CKC but also regocnized from the chihuahua club of america and has over 13 generationss under ckc too. so make sure with anything other than AKC that you do lots of reasearch.

if you want to breed/buying a puppy...for registration purposes. if you want puppies with AKC registration you can ONLY breed with AKC registerd dogs...for ckc automatic ckc registration is ckc x ckc or akc x ckc will give you ckc registration. if you want ckc registration and one of the dogs isnt registered ckc or akc then you will have to provide "proof" your dog is the breed you say which includeds providing head and body shots profile an dface on and from above, you also must provide 2 PROFESIONAL signatures that our dog is the breed you sya it is, usually breeder, show judge or vet works...they will also accept one of the above with one "unprofesional" say your vet says the dog is pure chi and your neighbor says its a chi ad the pictures look like a chi then you can ckc register it...
any other registrations dont require pictures or afferdavids so most breeds can be regitered (i know of a few occasions where POM-CHIS were registered as purebred chis with APRI registry...)

however if your not as interested in showing/breeding...then it doesnt matter, just dont pay extra for APRI or other registration...somepeople will have the pus registered with whatever registration will take them so they can charge more for "registerd dogs" just be catious.

also for showing purposes ONLY AKC dogs can be shown at AKC shows...at CKC shows ONLY AKC AND CKC can be shown...most other registries do not have any kind of showing...
