I just need to vent....
My hairdresser has a new lady working for her...so anyways, the new person has a chi pic up on her station...so, being a chi lover, I ask about the chi, and what do I hear "she is a teacup chi"....groan...but it gets better. So, I asked, what does she weigh-2.5lbs. and they have just bred her to have puppies...but the male is also small, he is only 2.25lbs...I wonder if she really cared about her chi or did she care because she was so small...
As a responsible breeder, I just wanted to say something, but I did not..because I just don't think that she would understand. Like, I wanted to say, don't you know that she is below weight of the breed standard, and don't you know that she was probably born into a litter that had larger pups in the litter....I could go on, but I just have to vent my anger here....sorry guys. But we all know, and have all talked about this before. Just maybe she will be lucky and only have to have a c-section. Then maybe she will decide to have her "teacup" spayed to save her as a nice pet, not a breeding bitch...by breeding her she could endanger her life, just for puppies...
Thank you for listening...or in this case reading...I love dogs and I love all of my chis. I even have some spayed females, knowing that I did not want to breed on their faults. To make a decision as a competent breeder. I love to breed puppies that are well balanced, loved and enjoyable family pets.

I think that another thing that made me mad was the attitude to go with it. We all get along really well here and the main reason being that we are all in love with chis. But when I tried to converse with this person-told her that I had a litter of puppies, she was just a non-interested by-stander. I am not saying that she should praise the ground I walk on because I have a litter of puppies, but she was just so non-interested, it gave the feeling of non-love for the breed. I know I am probably being childish. I think that is why I just did not have anything more to say-she just was not a chi lover....Most people that really love the breed want to know, what color, how big, how old...etc....

When I run into another chi person, I get all excited and stuff. So I feel ya on that one. How can anybody just feel nonchaleant (??) about chi's??
Sounds like she is just in it for the money. those poor poor dogs!

2.5lb is shockingly low, sounds to me like she just into the whole breeding tiny chis for big bucks. you would expect her to be full of questions, as she wud want as much knowledge and advice as possible if she expecting pups.
I cant imagine how smothing so fragile will cope with labour and looking after the pups

grrrrrrrrrrrrr some people are terrible - when you go into breeding you should atleast do a little research

Jeeze, that is smaller then Ginger is now!!!! I couldnt imagine breeding Ginger at 3lbs, let alone 2.5!! That is horrible. I hope this lady doesnt end up killing her poor dog, it might teach her a lesson but I feel horrilbe for that chi.....its not like she had any choice in the matter.

Speaking of "tea-cup" chi's....I have Ginger in an intro obedience class just for socialization (and if she actually learns some obedience thats good too ) Anyway you could just imagine the response I got when I brought this little 3lbs dog into class with all these large breed puppies. The lady next to me awwed at her and then asked if she was a 'tea-cup chihuahua'. All I could do was roll my eyes and tell her that there is no such thing and she started to argue with me . (well not a nasty argument) She was saying that breeders are now breeding 'tea-cup' chi's and that it was an actual category in chihuahua breeding. I was so shocked. I asked her if she ever owned a chi and she said no So I "educated" her on the whole topic and she seemed to understand it more. I also quoted the AKC standards for chihuahuas and that Ginger fits into the weight standards.

Just wanted to add that little bit.
