First let me say that I am not a breeder, I do not have the knowledge or want to be to one. I don't know how you do it, I would worry to much.

Now, on to my problem. I have avoided a local swap meet even though I really want to go. My reason, each and every week it seems like I see an ad in the paper from some kennel that has at least 4 to 6 different breeds listed for sale at the swap meet, even stating they take credit cards in the ad. I have seen a total of 13 different breeds advertised with this same kennel at different times when they have new litters. Well this week was the last straw.... they now have Chihuahuas for sale. I just can not imagine what all these poor babies, not just the Chi must go through. It does not sound like a kennel to me, not with that many different breeds.
Is there anything I can do to help these animals, or could I be completely wrong? Is it unheard of for a kennel to breed this many different breeds?

I don't want to go rescue these puppies only to keep a puppy mill going, if this is what they are. But at the same time I feel I have to do something. If I am wrong I will admit it and apologize. If I am wrong I would like to know.
Please, if I have upset anyone let me know, that is NOT my intent. I just don't feel I can sit by any longer and know this is going on. My gut tells me this isn't right. Just like all these dog auctions we have around here. It just kills me.

It certainley sounds like a puppy mill- the only way to be sure would to be to go around and have a look because as long as the dogs are clean , warm , fed and watered there is not alot you can do - unless in your state you are only allowed so many dogs per household and then you would be able to go to you local animal police and inform them of how many dogs they have.

Yeah or call a local animal shelter and ask what the standards are and what youcan do or them for that matter. I know how you feel, its very disheartening!!

I agree, that sounds like a puppy mill. My sister in-law used to work for a lady that breed and showed her dogs. She had 3 or 4 different breeds and she was very good at what she did. One of her dogs even placed in one of the major dog shows (can't recall which one) I seen on Animal Planet. But I can't imagine a breeder breeding that many different breeds.

I was just looking at different kennels. I still want to get another doggie. Just not sure if I will stick w/ chi's or will go w/ another small breed. Well, most of these kennels have pups in all small breeds! That has to be a money making scheme right? Most of them don't live indoors. They have these set ups outside. But of course they try to make it sound glamorous.
I truly think Mikey came from a puppy mill. Do you think that could account for some of his bad tempermant?

I feel that a good respectable breeder will only focus on 2 or maybe 3 different breeds. But if they are good, you will never see a mixed breeding from them. We have a lady in this area that started by advertising chis and then it was chi/pom cross and I hardly every see just chis from her anymore...sad

I agree. I don't think any good breeder would allow (yes I think they allow it by not preventing it) their dog to have mixed babies.

Kelly, I have heard that the doggies that come from puppy mills do have horrible attitudes. They are kept in cages and never have human contact or love. So it's possible.

I would for sure go & check it out. I think telling a shelter or humane society or even a local rescue about it would be the right thing to do & also Me myself, I would end p telling these people everything on my mind.
