Default First Sewing Project Results

For Christmas, my grandmother gave me a sewing machine. I have never sewn before, by hand or by machine. I've been wanting to make hammocks for my ferrets and such since it's MUCH cheaper to get fleece remnants and such than buy crappy ones from the pet store (*is blaspheming own workplace*).

Anyway, for my first ever attempt at using my sewing machine, I decided to take some remnants and make Lacey a small blanket for her kennel. I think it came out great for my first try!

I gave it to Lacey to test out for comfort. She did this:

I wasn't satisfied with her just laying there, so I asked her if she could do something other than snuggle up with it to show me her grand appreciation for my hard work. THIS is what my little clown did in response:

Think she is grateful for the hour I killed making that?

Congrats on the sewing machine. I just got my first one as well for my birthday (Jan 5). Something for my doggies is on the list but I haven't done it yet. My mom (excellent seamstress) has me sewing my daughter an apron first. Started it today!

Looks like u done a good job. Lacey seems to think so. Wink Wink.

Makes me happy to see her all snuggled up with MY blanket and not her usual fleecies that are all over my apartment. Gives me the warm fuzzies inside haha

Good luck with your new sewing machine, too. I really like mine so far. Once I figured out how to use the automatic threader, I was good to go.

It's all I wanted for Christmas, really. She actually bought me a Singer that I exchanged for the machine I have now...it was $50 more for this Brother, but it's 4-times better of a machine and much easier for beginners to learn on supposedly.

Lacey is quite pretty (when she's brushed and clean). I call her "freckle-face" because she has random black dots on her nose. She's a bit grungy right now, actually. She spent the night running around in her new dress (yes, I caved and bought her a dress she tried on in PetSmart and WOULD NOT let me take off of her).
My friends were over, and we let Lacey get all dressed up for a hot date with her ferret boyfriend, Caedmon. He wasn't much of a gentleman. He kept putting his nose up her dress.

Haha, that's adorable. It would be great if you post some pictures of your ferrets, I've always been intrigued by them.

Oh and what is the full name of your machine? (thanks!)

The problem with ferrets is that they're really hard to photograph unless they're sleeping. Lacey's boyfriend is impossible to get a photo of that isn't a blur. I should have named him Tornado, Whiplash, or Ghost. He's in front of the camera, I hit the button, and I look at the preview and see the tip of his tail disappearing in the picture and no other part of him. I'll be certain to do a ferret photoshoot soon so you all can meet the boys.

My machine is the Brother CS-6000i Sew Advance Sew Affordable Computerized Sewing Machine. It's really fantastic. There are also a bunch of tutorials and walk-thru vids on youtube for it! What I really love about it is that it is SUPER quiet, even on faster speeds.

Do you mind giving me an idea of how pricey it is?
I would love to get a good beginner machine in the near future.
