Default Skin Rash

Hi All

I recently adopted my pup, Maggie. The owner tells me that what she has is a skin rash, but that it's curable with the antibiotics she gave me and that she needs a special dip. She says that it will completely go away after 4-5 of them. She's lost quite a bit of hair, but it doesn't seem to bother her at all. She does scratch some, and I've noticed her dragging her bottom around. I'll attach some pics (before and after). Has anyone had any experience with this and what was the outcome? I'm taking her to my vet on Thursday. Thanks!

Please keep that vet appointment!
I hope it's just a rash, but with loosing hair I'm more inclined to think it's mange. Make sure your vet does a skin scraping.
Good Luck and please let us know what your vet says.

Thanks Ms_P. I was thinking the same. Her sister is the same way, but this womans other pets look fine that's why I wasn't sure. I will definitely keep you posted. I'm still giving her the antibiotics. She's 11 weeks.

Your welcom
Since you say her other dogs look fine, it's just her and her sister it's probably puppy demodex. Demodex is actually an immune system problem that is passed down by the mother.
One of mine had it and was on ivermectin for several months, she actually had a reacurence, but I think it was because we stopped the ivermectin too soon. She's fine now, but it took quite a while for her hair to grow back in.
Fortunatly in this day and age most mange is completly curable

Ya know, the previous owner said it was hereditary, but I didn't believe her. She said that with the previous litter, none had it but one developed it after he was older. Then with this litter, it affected Maggie and her sister. She has the father. He's 4 and no problems and a Husky mix who is healthy as well. I'll let you know what the vet says. Thanks again!
