Default My Female is Humping....

Ok, so Lola is five months old.. and she has been humping a pillow of hers for the past week.. she will do it straight for about an hour (while taking quick breaks for water) then take a nap on the pillow then start again.. is this normal? what age do Chihuahua's start going into heat? I been to the library and the book store trying to find out more information on this but cant seem to find anything.. so i hope i can get a few answers here..

not sure if any of this matters but fyi She is a she, she is five months old (DOB 12/1/04), she is not fixed, she is long coat, she is full breed AKC registed and if we take the pillow away, she will find something else, i havent seen any blood yet..

ps.. how much do they bleed..

thanks soooooooooooooo much for all your help!

Sadie is 3, fixed, and she's been humping her stuffed bunny for the last 2.5 years. She grabs it by the nose, and gets on top to do her thing all night long. I have no idea why she does it, but it sure was good for a laugh the first 6 months, now we just say..."oh there goes Sadie with her bunny". Some people think it's a dominance thing, but with inanimate objects? I have no idea.

In regards to being in heat, most begin estrous cycles between 6-9 months (informaiton will vary, but this is my experience). You can see amounts of blood anywhere from a few drops, to a steady on/off trickle.

Yep, Jasmine has her big white teddy bear!! When she first started humping her teddy bear, I couldn't believe it. I've had females for years and never had one that did this. My daughter has mini doxies, and I asked her about it - well, one of hers does the same thing.

It is nothing to be concerned about. I just ignore Jasmine, and if I am going to have any company I make sure the teddy bear is put away.

Lily sometimes does it too ozzy but he never does it, people always think its the boys who hump peoples legs but In my experience girls are much worse lol

I would try and have her fixed when she is 6 months to save the hassle of the heat and also it reduces her risks of getting v=certain types of cancer in later life to 0%

to quote nate from a previous post on the percentage of lowering cancer risks:

Quote:
spaying before the first heat ensures that they have the least risk of developing reproductive cancer in the future. This has to do with the release of the hormones like estrogen that cause changes and have effects on metabolism, and development of reproductive cells that are the site of cancerous growth.

Before 1st heat: 99.99% reduction of risk
After 1st heat: 80%
After 2nd heat: 60%
After 3rd heat and beyond: negligable

a spayed female is 100% safe from getting ovarian and uterine cancer.... as those are removed with a spay

All of my grandma's dogs have done this (all desexed and chi x) so she asked the vet why it happens.
The vet told grandma that when females are desexed it can put there hormones off balance and this is why they 'hump' stuff.
