Smile Low Cal dog food

HI, I have a Chi Deerhead who is way too chubby. He is 3 years old and very active but is overweight. I feed him 1 cup of Rachael Rays Nutrish a day and he always wants more. He is a big Chi to begin with but shouldnt be this fat. Nutrish is 326 Cal. a cup. Does anyone know of something less? I've tried other weight control foods but they were more calories than this and he still wasn't satisfied. Thanks

You can also cut back on the food a little and fill up his bowl with green beans. My mom's vet suggested that for a heavy dachshund she had. You just buy cheapy canned green beans. Throw them in a colander and run water over them (to reduce the sodium or just buy low salt green beans). Then you can mix them with his food. He will feel like he's eating more and also the fiber is good for him to make him feel full longer. I bet the weight will drop off quickly with that regimen. Good for you for trying to help him lose weight and be healthier. You can also incorporate a daily walk or two to help his metabolism speed up a bit.

That's an awesome idea Brodysmom, I'll have to try that.

For what it's worth, when I shopped at this great holistic dog food store in WA I inquired about the same thing jcx. I was looking for a low calorie kibble to slim my husky just a hair. The guy was awesome and recommended keeping him on his normal kibble and just cutting back on the feeding amount. I cut back on his regular kibble just a tiny bit like he suggested and sure enough got the results I was looking for.
