My 13 year old female spayed Chihuahua has an enlarged heart which she is currently on medication for. She has allergies as well (her paws are always red and she's licking them) so the doc told us to give her Benadryll. Recently when we went to the vet we asked about this little white-ish dot right in the middle of her right eye on the outer layer of her eye. The doc said she probably damaged the outer layer of her eye a long time ago and this is the result of it and that it really wasn't a big deal but to just keep an eye on it. She has had this for almost a year. She has also always had a little clear discharge in her eyes. Today, her eye was closed more, had a lot of clear and green discharge and when I tried to clean it off, she yelped as if it hurt a lot. The whites of her eyes are rather red and she doesn't want to open her eyelid too much. Also, last night I noticed one eye had that "night vision" glow but the affected one did not. Could it be uveitis? If not, what? We plan on going to the vet soon but just want to get an idea first.... Please Help!

I'm sorry I have no idea, but I would definitely get her to a vet asap. How scary for you and for her! I hope it's an easy answer and just requires some drops or something. Please let us know what the doctor says

We have a vet appointment set up for today in just a few hours. Her eye is already looking better and we've been putting warm compresses on her eye every night. Thanks for the get well wishes! We'll update later tonight if it's good news...

Well there's good news and bad news....

The good news it is not life threatening/eye threatening! Kinda.. It's an ulcer on the eye (o.O) so they gave me "Dog Ibuprofen" in some drops and an antibiotic gel/cream to put on her eyeball. They said it's a "cross your fingers and hope it doesn't get worse" situation because....

Bad news:

...it could get infected. But she thinks since it's only on the surface it should get better soon. They stained her eye green which would make the ulcer on her eye (smaller than a pea width) light up and boy could you see that thing from SPACE! It was bright. Lit up the friggin' room haha. So she said the gel should almost act like a barrier as well to keep anything from getting in her eye and scratching it or irritating it or making it worse in general.

So here she sets on her throne...my bed...with a green laser eye and a flexible "cone" collar. She looks like she has a lazy eye... or like she just woke up from a deep sleep... Either way, they numbed her eyeball so it should feel better to her now.

How did this happen?

Well, she had a previous little pinprick of a discoloration on the outer layer of her eye and when we took her to the vet to ask a/b her heart condition, we mentioned that. They said it was probably just a damaged part of the eye from a scratch or hitting her head somewhere. We were kinda confused seeing as she's a very lazy dog. She doesn't really wander around trying to do things that would injure herself. That was probably a year ago. This time, they said she must have done the same thing again or got something caught in her eye that she couldn't get out and irritated it real bad. She said dogs with bulging eyes (Bitz's doesn't bulge that much) are susceptible to these ulcers.

So honestly, who knows? :[
