I've read that feeding 3-4 small meals a day is good for a breed as small as the Chi, but then I've also heard of many who only feed twice a day and everything's great. I have to feed 4 small meals a day because one of mine is liver compromised and the other would have a heart attack if her brother was eating and she wasn't! So her daily portion just gets divided up into four servings. I also leave veg. kibble out all the time and she will snack on that too.

Dazy and Lulubelle get fed twice a day...and in the afternoon I give them their dog treats...1 mini snack bone, carrots or a piece of apple. I always leave a handful of dry kibble in their bowl and it is really just a tiny handful.
Lulu. just turned 1 and Dazy is 2 yrs.

Rocky is 3 x a day, I just split his daily amount. He has a problem with being sick if he has an empty tummy. So he gets 3 meals an a chewy snack before bed and he is a good weight.
Im sure 2 x a day would be fine as well.

I feed three times a day, there isn't any problem with it as long as food is given in appropriate amounts

I take Bella's daily portion of dog food (1/3 cup Wellness Core) and divide it equally into 2 meals for
breakfast and dinner on work days. This is convenient for me since no one is home to feed lunch to Bella.

However, on weekends, holidays or vacations when I'm home with Bella, I'll divide her daily portion of dog food equally into 3 meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). This is because if I'm eating lunch, Bella has to eat lunch with me too.

thanks for all the advice-we've decided to split two meals into three.
