I'm taking that bag of Taste of The Wild back. I don't care if it's opened; I'm not chancing Midgie getting sick. I keep hitting dead ends where Kibble is concerned. I guess I'll just stick to the THK & give her cottage cheese, carrots & Yogurt. You really can't trust any of these companies & I hope that THK never disappoints me (but it wouldn't surpise me if they did). I believe they know exactly what's in this dogfood that they're producing. I chose Taste of the Wild over a Holistic dogfood, but maybe when I bring this bag back, I'll give another look. Since Midgie can't have beef, I'm limited to what she can have. I was so happy to be finding lots of fish kibble but had no idea about the ethoxyquin process. This makes me want to avoid fish which leaves, turkey, duck & lamb. I'm afraid to give chicken because of all the hormones they use. My head is spinning.

I also found this fact sheet that tells which companies use ethoxyquin:

Yep...that's part of why we switched to a combo of THK, raw meaty bones and Nature's Variety medallions. NV has had some recalls, but that was before they changed to their new method of processing. It all makes me so nervous. We are trying to do as much "raw food" as we can that is stuff we buy at the grocery store. With hubby and I both working full time though, for now I have to rely somewhat on "what's out there". If we ever switch back to a kibble, it will be Fromm. Fromm is one company I really do trust. B can't eat kibble anyway (just no matter what kind gives him the runs), so we probably won't be switching back any time soon.

Next time you buy THK, I would maybe suggest buying the Keen formula. It is actually LESS expensive than preference and it HAS MEAT That way you can feed a complete meal to Midgie without having to add anything in (I still do very often though!).

Yea, I've been thinking about that too. I don't want to run out, so I'll have to order some soon, but I have to be careful because of her beef allergy. We're still in the "what else is she allergic too?" phase. I'm not sure about chicken. Her itching has calmed down since THK but it's not gone which might be the steroid shot that was coated with beef a month ago. I guess the shot still in her system. I don't mind the Preference too much, but with 3-5 year olds (1 is Midgie) Keen would definitely make my job a little easier.

Oh Yea, every time a mix a batch of THK, I do add ground Turkey or Pink Salmon (Can) or Sardines. I try to alternate them with each batch.

Since this topic came up, I've been doing some internet research on the foods mentioned & out of all the foods mentioned "FROMM" seemed to be the only one I couldn't find recalls or negative comments on. I've put an email in to Fromm asking for a free sample before I decide to buy it. I guess I should have been asking for samples from the start--would've saved me a bunch of money & time! Hahaha

Keen is turkey based

Fromm's Four Star Nutritionals are their line I like best and find to be the best quality

I wish I hadn't bought this food. I got the canidae ALS grain free, and she ate it fine (no suprise there) lol
But I've been reading some stuff online about how their formula supposedly changed and dogs having all sorts of bad reactions...blah blah blah. I am so freaking sick of this! grrrr!
I read the ingredients they look great and then a bunch of bad press. Leila like never has bowel trouble and she's tried several foods, but if the food has something in it causing other dogs problems I don't want any part of it. I am going to try to return it hopefully and get my money back! I will either have to drive way out to get the fromm or something or get some of THK which i can get locally. I just want to have kibble also.
