I set an absolute limit for us of $300 for our animals purchase price, A: Because I wanted to make sure I was left with sufficient funds, god forbid, they need medical care which - Godric did the day after we got him and B: I consider the pet deposit at my home part of my "purchase" which for both animals was $400 additional and C: I wanted to provide all the extras a dog deserves, toys, quality food, bedding, treats.

In my opinion if a person can provide these things, proof etc. but can't afford >$300 they aren't worth ruling out necessarily. The day I brought Godric home I drove 4 hours total worth of fuel, paid $200 on him, paid $200 pet deposit upon arrival, and after work had a shopping bonanza of another $150 getting him setup on toys, a bed, food etc. only to discover the next morning we were going to spend $30 on an unplanned Dr. visit not including his vaccinations.

I guess i'm saying they're your babies so be selective but I know plenty of rich irresponsible pet owners, heh
I agree with both of you, but I also see as a "small" breeder so I see both ends. I have sold pet males at $200 and still hear from those owners and are well cared for as well as the ones I sold for more but hear less from. I think it all depends on being selective on who gets your pups and don't rush into selling them.

Yep that's what I hear, the lady that sold me my first for $100 was my former boss so she knew me prior to the selling etc but she sold all 7 pups for $150 each and was SUPER selective, I think all but 1 of the buyers were regular customers at our work hah, but they all turned out great and once in a while we have puppy reunions!

Godrics breeder on the other hand I think was posing as a responsible breeder but was mainly interested in turning a quick buck and was just somewhat happy I didn't end up being a twit. I assume this because she asked if I was interested in breeding him, which I firmly declined and have already set the date for his neutering, then later in our conversation when I picked him up mentioned more than once how much money I could make stud-ding him. Sigh.

It's really so sad when they are like that it gives everyone else a bad name I continue to send emails and contact them on the pups Bday's I don't care if it was 3 yrs ago when I sold that pet I am always apart of their life as they have left me with their sweet puppy kisses on my heart.
I believe you find the right people for those pups you will have a continued relationship with pups and people. and I of course have an open home if something changes in their life they can come to me and will not turn a pup I raised away. It's still amazes me that people bought pet pups from me ask if I have puppies as they would by from me again in a heart beat

Funny you say that ha, I took my first home early and we were both up crying to one another all night, it was pitiful and my boss let me know right away she would take her back if I needed. I didn't of course and i'm glad she's with me, we still call "Granny Janet" every so often and schedule visits for Gretel to see her mom and pop, she even watches her when we go on vacation, built in babysitter!

I was thinking the exact same thing, I bought Fudge for £400 and was really lucky 'cause around here I never see any chihuahuas under £700, so $300 is definitely not too much!
