When I got Jackson I went out and bought some small toys for him. He is terrified of them though. He is afraid of the ones that squeak the most. Is this normal for chi's? I got him when he was just a little over a year old and the lady said they got him from people who were abusing him so maybe as a pup he never had toys and doesn't understand what they are for or what to do with them. The other dogs I have had in my life all loved their toys and I was just wondering if this is a fairly normal behaivor for the chi breed or not?

I don't think its the normal behavior, but i'm not a chi expert by any means. Maybe get him some little stuffed animal types they aren't squeaky. Does he have a little bone? My boxer still chews bones and he's like 5 years old. lol

All the time! (we've got bout 5 different toys that go to bed with us just for Maisie some nights!)

Pippi was terrified of squeeky toys when I first got her and didnt know how to play, but now shes fine - Once she realised they werent scary all was fine. We had to introduce them slowly though and started with the ones that smelt of various meats!

How long have you had him? When I found Reggie, he's about 4 years old, he had no idea what a toy was. It took him about 2 1/2 months before he learned to play, first with the other chis, then with toys. As he feels more confident in your home, he may start playing. Tico, my old (about 10 to 12 year-old, mostly blind) boy is the only one that doesn't play with toys. The others play constantly.

Luna doesn't play with toys and never did. Dutch on the other hand plays with anything left on the floor. He loves his toys and the kids toys too. They get so mad when he chews one of their toys up. Hey, he is only 5 months old and they are 2 and 3, its just a zoo around here.

Darla and Dillon play with toys, but not Daisy, she never has.
Darla gets scared of some new toys, but once she gets used to them she is fine. x

I have 2 that love toys, and 2 that can take them, or leave them. At first those loud squeakers can be a bit frightening, but it doesn't take long for them to realize that it can become a very fun game trying to make the toy make noise.
