Default Car Sickness?

Colette (my toy poodle) gets car sick almost everytime we take her anywhere. On Sunday when we went to the dog walk/fair I put her in her pet taxi and when we were almost there I hear her throwing up so then I had a to clean her up (my poor baby) when we got there - luckily I had brought along pet wipes just in case and then I rinsed the taxi out with a bottle of water and napkins that I had in my car. On the ride home she was perfectly fine - no problems what so ever.

Now a woman at the fair told me that if she was harnessed down so she couldn't slide around that she probably wouldn't get car sick. She said her dog used to get car sick like that too and when she started putting him in a car/booster seat where he was more stable he no longer has had a problem. But I was like was she telling me that because she was trying to make a sell of her car booster seat (LOL) or could this actually be the cause - maybe Colette is sliding around a bit inside her pet taxi and it is making her sick???? Chloe doesn't have a problem but Colette seems to upchuck almost anytime I take her somewhere.

Was this woman telling me the truth or just trying to make a sell? I am leary of buying a car/booster seat since they are not the cheapest things to buy just to have Colette throw up on it every time I put her in it. Plus if I am going to buy one I want the large size where both Colette and Chloe can ride together and if Colette throws up I don't want it to get on Chloe as well.

I don't know - I am so confused! I don't want to leave poor Colette home everytime we take Chloe somewhere but I don't want my poor little girl getting an upset tummy everytime we go out either.

Any advice????

Poor babies!
Oh i might try the gingersnaps next time.
Problem is i dont drive and we only get into my mans car now and then.
He cant be bothered driving when he comes here.
So Darla cant get used to it.

Oh good idea! I will have to pick some gingersnap cookies up at the store! I am going to the store on my lunch break even so I will pick some up then - I'll have to leave them in my car though or I will probably end up eating them myself. LOL

When Chico started riding in the car I didn't have a car seat for him... he was on my side(driver) looking out the side window... it is difficult to drive as you can imagine, but he NEVER got sick....

since buying this seat he gets sick.....

I think the booster seat might work because him being in a pet taxi where he can't see out could cause motion sickness. It might ease him to be able to see out. Try getting excited when you want to take them in the car like saying "Do you want to go for a car ride! Do you want to go for a walk at the park!" Associate car riding as a fun, exciting time & they should calm down eventually. The reason why so many probably get car sick is because their first memories of riding in cars is when they went to the vet for their shots & they think there's a chance that they're going now. It's like you have to earn their trust where a car ride is concerned. The gingersnaps sounds like a fantastic idea & I'd bring another for the trip home too.

Try a <a href="http://www.mizter.com/car-sick-dog.htm">dog car sickness</a>strap.
Did the trick for my chocolate lab!
