That is my hardest thing to try to change. Gonzo marked, I adopted him at 2 years-old, and because of training and his willingness to please, he is completely house broken. Reggie, whom I found at 6 years-old, is another story. I can not get him to stop marking if he is anywhere other than the dog room and even there, he forgets sometimes and marks the blankets or dog beds. He couldn't care less that I tell him no, he doesn't live to please me at all. I believe he had lived his entire 6 years out in someone's backyard, ignored for the most part. And Tico, forget it. He's about 16, lived all his life in a cage and is blind. He does try to find the pee pads, but if he can't, the blankets, dog beds, other dogs, the walls, or the couch gets blessed. He's even peed on me a few times. The younger males are pretty good at not marking, but I've had most of them from puppyhood. One thing that helped with Gonzo is a belly band. He wouldn't pee with one on and he learned when I asked him if he had to potty, he got it off and got a lot of praise if he went out and either peed or at least lifted his leg and tried. It took about a year to get him completely reliable, but it's great. His reward is he gets to be in the front room with my daughters and not stuck in the dog room with all the other dogs.
