Anybody else have a very nervous dog?
and do you have any tips to cope with it!!


Heidi is a really nervy, hyper vigilant dog and on walks is always either barking at other dogs or up on her hind legs looking for other dogs. The other day as we were walking past some gardens she suddenly screamed and when I turned around I realiesed it was coz we had past a gate and there was a little Yorkie just standing the other side!! She literally screamed in shock!
I wish she was more relaxed as she enjoys her walks and loves to run flat out. Yesterday we went for a 2 and a half hour walk in a country park and she loved being able to just run and play...if only she wasnt so scared...

lol The infamous chihuahua scream of death. Gonzo did this too, at dogs on the other side of the fence or at the groomers getting his nails trimmed. The first time he did it, it sounded like he was been stabbed slowly. Scared the crap out of me and the lady behind me who came running out of her house thinking the dogs were in trouble. He has gotten a lot better, only screamed once the last time he got his nails done instead of constantly and stopped screaming at the dogs around us. So maybe she will outgrow it and get better, too.

I wonder if this pup has gone to puppy kindergarten?? Might help alot. One of my chi's went to 3 kindergartens! First one at graduation, they all clapped because she actually was on the gound and not yelling! 2nd one she actually walked around a little bit, and by the 3rd she did the whole thing. Just be patient. I carried that little one through out the first one and kept trying to put her down. Alot of people thought she should have been left on the ground, but I knew she was terrified. It all worked out, and she went on to be a therapy dog! This puppy literally screamed her head off the first round! Heard her all over the place.! Just keep at it. Most places offer a free 2nd chance and in this case a 3rd chance.! Good luck, Sue

Mine don't scream, but they are cautious of things they are unfamiliar with.

Gracie loves everyone, but hates strange dogs. She's a barker, and does the meerkat thing where she walks on her hind legs to get a better look at them. She particularly hates any dog Pedro shows an interest in, and poor Pedro has been neutered!

Diesel is very cautious of strangers. No one can walk up to him and touch him or pick him up unless I pick him up and let them. He doesn't bark or scream, he just scurries behind me and hides.

As far as I'm concerned, it's just part of their personalities!
