Default Pee and Poo question...

Cocoa is adjusting well... but we need to work on his socialization somewhat...he was only in the house at the breeders so still shys away from people... with alittle work, that will change

He is not neutered (YET) but will be in February along with a couple of retained teeth taken out... he is healthy but the smallest Chi I have ever had (4lbs).... they (chico and cocoa) have a room which holds their toys, water... and their pee pads.... they both know to use this room as the 'bathroom' and so far no 'accidents'.....my question pertains to when Cocoa pees and poos...

chicos' pee and poos do not STINK .... but when Cocoa pees and poos OH MY GOODNESS!!! I can smell it thruout the house... its like major PHEEEWWWWWWWWW!!!!

they both eat high quality kibble... grainfree... Cocoa has been like this from day one here....

Is this because he is not Neutered? if so, will it get better afterwards? why does it affect the Poo too?

any help/suggestions...HELP!

I am not sure if neutering affects the smell, that would be interesting to find out
but from personal experience, whenever I brought a new pup home they had smelly and sometimes runny stools for 1-2 weeks
I always worm them again when I bring a new pup home and slowly change their diet to the kibble I feed and then the stool consistency etc. improves
I always thought its stress of a changed environment that does this

That's a good question...Wish I knew a good answer.

I don't know if there's any difference with Diesel, as he always goes outside. He's not neutered yet, either.

Pee can smell stronger when it's more concentrated - like if they hold it too long or when they first wake up in the morning.

I know Pedro is neutered, and his has a very strong odor - he goes outside, too, but has long hair and the smell lingers in the hair - I have to take a rag and wash his winkie several times a day.

It will be interesting to see what others have to say about this.

Cocoa has been here for about a month..... he is 9months old... I never thought a smell SO strong could come from such a little B*TT

It doesn't seem to matter what time of day... it stinks! he never has to hold it as he knows his 'bathroom' is only a few steps away in that room... I can't wait to see what others say also!

Sometimes if their poo really stinks it CAN mean they are allergic to a protein in their food, OR, they are not getting enough water. Pee definitely stinks more from an intact male, yuck...but I haven't neutered and then experienced if that 'updates' the odor LOL. More water certainly helps, possibly soak his food in water before he eats, that way he gets more water by default...some dogs just don't think to drink enough water.

well, I will do some experimenting... their grain-free is pretty high in protein... but I do soak their food in water before feeding......

how do I lower the protein in the food without losing the quality they need?? by 'protein' does that mean MEAT?
