Default Vet Update

Today we went to vet for Smeagol's annual check up and booster. I asked for a titer test for him and I will get the result in 2 days. I love our vet because he seems so knowledgeable and knows what he's doing. He's even willing to give the exemption for the rabies if his titer test show a high result even though it is a mandatory by NY law. And he knows that Smeagol doesn't have any allergies or reaction to it. But it wasn't easy to draw the blood because he took it from the neck and Smeagol was fighting him. Poor Smeagol he was so scared that he pee and poop all over . It was just a disaster and I felt so sorry for him. But after 3 attempts we finally got his blood.

Overall Smeagol is very healthy. Except he has a mild case of LP on his left hind leg. The vet said to maintain his weight to keep it from worsening. I heard that you can give Glucosamine and Chondroitin, Esther C, and salmon oil treatment. Now should I start him on this? He already gets once a day salmon oil since he was a puppy. If I need to get him on Glucosamine and Chondroitin, which kind would you recommend? And what is the dosage? He is 5.5 lbs now.

Sorry to hear about mild LP.
Your vet is correct, keeping your pup fit will help it from getting worse.
And glucosamine and chondroitin will improve the health of joint cartilage.
I give glucosamine, chondroitin and fish oil. There is no harm in it, you can
start immediately. I give my boys the exact same kind that I take myself.

Just make sure you buy GOOD Gluco, there are kinds that you should avoid.
NaCL or KCl is no good! And make sure the ingredient list does not contain
potassium or salt after the sulfate. What you want is a bottle that says
glucosamine sulfate or HCL. You do not want a bunch of salts in your
product, it will cost less and will be inferior in quality. I also recommend
liquid instead of tablet form because it absorbs better & faster. You can
find a formula that has both gluco and chondroitin in one.

Wow LS thank you so much for the info. Now I know what to look for. Do you mind telling which one/what brand you get? And what is the dosage I should give him?

Thank you Sheila. He is not having any pain or showing any signs yet. So I hope this supplement will minimize that.
