Sometimes Barney just needs to growl, jump and bite things. I think that's normal. If he starts hopping or biting on me, I direct him to play with a toy instead. A plain toy in his mouth is fine for fetch, but he sometimes like the interaction of a long string toy.
I made one from an old cotton shirt. It has a square part at one end for him to bite, then a long cord so I can stand up/sit in a chair, and dangle it on the floor for him. He loves to growl, jump, bite and chase it. Since it is soft, I can swing it into him
He doesn't really play with these toys without my interaction (yet), so I have to make time to play. The good thing about that is I can work on his 'drop' command, 'wait' sometimes, and even 'sit' sometimes before I give something back. He loves it !
Each time he starts doing something I don't want, I try to figure out what I do want and figure out ways to train for that. Good luck in your journey !
