Default Two Chis?

I'm trying to convince my other half to let me get another chi around January (if our landlord agrees to it. I don't think there will be a problem though). Before I go too far not it I want to make sure that I know what I am potentially letting myself in for. I want someone for Mylo to play with because unless we play with him he doesn't do much playing on his own, also I feel like I would be happier to leave them both on their own than I would leaving Mylo on his own when I go out.

However, I worry that two will need a lot more attention and that it will be harder to walk them or do things with them, for example, taking two dogs on the bus as I don't have a car. Will he be fine sharing his crate or will we need another one? Also Mylo was really easy to look after and I worry another chi would not be... He has slept through from 12ish to 8ish in his crate without any whining since I brought him home at 8 weeks. I usually take him for a potty break around 5 but if I don't wake up he wakes me at 8 by whining to go potty. After an hour or two he's happy to allow me to go back to bed for a couple of hours (I work nights, my OH works days). He's 16 weeks and more or less potty trained and learns commands really quickly. I'm guessing the sleeping through is fairly unusual? Also, I find that he's scared of all the dogs he meets. I try to socialise him with any dogs I can when we go for walks but I don't know anyone with dogs. He's ok in my arms, but not fond. He's fine to sniff dogs so long as they are paying no attention to him what so ever and if they do he hates it and tried desperately to run away. He won't walk past dogs that are tied up, even if they're sitting still and not making any noise. Will he get on with another dog if I get one? Is it a bad idea because he's scared of dogs or a good idea because it will help the issue? He does like one dog on our street but that dog isn't fond of him because he's 13 and quiet and Mylo acts like an excited puppy (the only dog he has ever done this with!)

What do you guys think the pros and cons of getting a second chi are? Sorry again for my inability to write a short post!

I just got Luna about 3 weeks ago to be a playmate for Zeus. Their personalities are quite the opposite but they compliment each other well. I found that all the things you are worried about, I was worried about too, but once I got her home and saw how happy Zeus was, I did whatever it took to ensure that they would remain happy together. It is a lot harder to do things with two pups though, at least for me. When I just had Zeus, taking him somewhere was a breeze, but now they both "fight" for my lap and who gets to stick their head out of the carrier first. Its a bit frustrating. But I don't think you will regret it. I know I don't.

Getting my second chi was so fun and exciting! I also brought Lola home for Gino (who has passed 6 months after Lola came home) and then adopted mojo for Lola 3 weeks after Gino died bc she was so devastated!! She would walk around looking for him! Anyway, I loved having 2 chi's so much!! So much that I now have 3. Yes, it's a little harder to take them places but Bryan I take them together so each one always had 1 dog so it wasn't so bad. Even w 3, we take them out together all the time. Getting a second one also made leaving them home alone a lot easier. I didn't have to worry about Lola being home alone all day long. She always had her buddy mojo!!

I say do it!! And I want u to keep me posted on the pups u look at, I love puppy shopping! Too bad u weren't closer, Leo's breeder is having 3 litters this christmas!!

2 are great, they are great company for each other, and the new chi you would be getting would be a puppy so Mylo shouldn't really be scared of it and by the time the puppy grows he will be well used to it

The huge advantages are that they have each other for company whenever you are out, or not around them and they play together.

Two aren't difficult to walk - I find 3 are difficult and it is the only downside to having three, that it really does take two people to walk them (other than quick around the block gallops )

Thanks. I thought you guys might talk me into it! Not that I wasn't already talked into it! The biggest thing for me I think is knowing Mylo isn't home alone. I was so sorry to hear about Gino in the post you wrote, must have been heart breaking for you guys and Lola. That is a real shame...I'm in love with Leo! I'll let you all know if I manage to convince the OH. I probably won't be looking for a while though because we'll have to save up first (but I do find myself looking at puppy adverts all the time!)

Keep your opinions coming!

I brought home little Chloe when Zoey was 4. They have so much fun together but they don't snuggle up to sleep together yet, I'm sure it will be soon though. Your new pup will not be able to hold it for 8 hours. Chloe came to us pad and litter trained so it was easy but I put her in the laundry room at night with her crate open food/water and pads. She did cry and screm for about a week then it stopped. She pees a lot more then I remember Zoey going. She just recenatly started sleeping with us as she can hold it through the night now at about 7 months. Zoey did gain some weight from getting into the puppy food and they both eat a lot. Zoey more then she used to. But there is no food aggression.

I'm ok with getting up in the night to go the toilet. I was expecting it with Mylo and then he just held it anyway. He's never gone on people or furniture and he only really has accidents now when he's too far over one side of the puppy pad (he's 16 weeks). I feed ziwipeak so they'll both eat the same thing, Mylo would be around 8 months when we would be able to get a new pup and he only eats when he's hungry even if there's food there so I don't envision too much of a problem there. Thanks for giving me some of the negatives, I want to be fully prepared before we decide to go ahead.

When I had two dogs, I worried about a third. But three were fine

When I had three dogs, I really really wanted another one and four were fine.

Then I wanted a show dog that wasn't coated (the grooming on my maltese was too much for me!) so I got a long coat chihuahua and 5 were fine.

.......things got a little tricky when we added Mona Lisa's birth mother. I think six is one too many!!! When people walk into our house, the dogs turn into a pack!!!!!! and attack!!! OMG!!
