Taz has eye staining pretty bad under his eyes and down the sides of his muzzle. Charlie never got that staining maybe because I feed him a high quality grain free food I don't know. but I want to get rid of the stains they are really dark and set in like nobody ever did anything about it what can I do to get rid of it
I used angel eyes on my Maltese. I worked great on his very bad tear staining. I used it for about two months and he looked great. After I stopped his eyes stayed looking great for about six months. I really need to order some more. There website only shows white dogs so I don't know if it is good for Chihuahua's too.
Sorry, I just checked better. What I used was Eye Envy. My sister used Angels' Eyes on her Maltese and iit worked for here.
I believe there are some home remedies too. I didn't realize Jenna has tear stainging too so I'll be watching this thread to see what else is recomemded since my budget is really tight.
I wouldn't recommend angel eyes because it is a long term antibiotic. Not healthy to have a dog on long term.
Usually, tearing and staining is due to a poor diet. Do you know what food he was on at his previous home?
If not diet related, you can try apple cider vinegar in his water. It helps with staining. Also, wipe the tears with a warm cloth so they do not accumulate and breed bacteria.
What she said ^^ about the Angel Eyes. I don't like to use anything that is ingested if I can avoid it, and it is an antibiotic to treat the fungal type issue that is at the bottom of the tear stains.
I personally prefer Eye Envy. It's topical, takes a bit longer to work, but is natural and not ingested. Get the NR kind (non refrigerated) for convenience. I've used it on Tango and it works. I don't use it all the time, but especially during the summer when his eyes water more, it's like magic for clearing up the discoloration.
I don't know what he was eating in his previos home its a triangle shaped food. I free feed grain free then once a day i give then canned food mixed with grainfree kibble I've never had a problem with Charlie getting tear stains. I'm wondering if it is diet maybe i should wait and see how it goes maybe the tear staining will clear up on its own. It starting to look a little better already I think I don't know if I'm just getting used to it but it looks like the staining less to me Like not as dark as it was maybe she feeds her dog cheap dog food who knows.
Jaxx has tear stains sometimes even with being on a really good grain free food. I think it is the water here in East Texas (the water smells horrible and makes me gag when taking a shower sometimes.) I have been giving Jaxx filtered water and adding Apple Cider Vinegar to his water once a week. I only do it once a week because he doesn't drink as much water when I add it to the water but between the two his tear stains have gotten better.
I also wash his face with a warm wash cloth once a day.
