Hi everyone. Bonnie has for the past week, appeared to be frightened by things that I don't even think of being frightened by. First, she is mostly, an inside dog with 2 other chi's. I have an ankle brace and not able to walk alot. Sunday, she found my pillow (I use on the the braced leg in my recliner) at an angle, and took off with her tail between her legs. Obviously, very scared. I moved the pillow back to next to my chair. She didn't come near this area for the rest of the evening. Last night she discovered a piece of a broken plastic leash (retractable handle broke when I dropped it). She acted like this one inch piece was a bob cat!!!! Absolutely terrified. I picked it up and tried to show her, but she ran away. We have left stuff on the floor for her to 'check out' but she prefers to run to her little carrier and peek out at it! How do I help her.? She is now 8 months old

Get a hold of her & the broken leash & show her, but maintain a laughing happy tone so she sees it's nothing to be afraid of. Once/if that works move on to the other things. I would probably put the pillow on the floor & lay on it until she comes over to be with you, then she can investigate the pillow. Something has frightened her & now she is leery of everything. JUst keep reassuring her, it's ok & you won't let nothing hurt her.

We have 'shown' her objects that have scared her before, but it takes alot to get her even near them. She does best when you just remove them. I don't make a big deal over these objects. I just can't figure out how she notices the tiny things. The one inch piece of the retractable leash, I didn't even see. It was over by the front door; I thought it was a leaf that had blown in!

I can't get on the floor. I can pick her up from the floor, but my body doesn't get down on the ground, 'cause it will be very hard to get up again.
