Kalisee turned 7 months just last week.

Yesterday I noticed a spec of brown on her bedding and today I am finding little drops of blood here and there...there were no signs really, she didn't have "pms".

There is no danger of her ever getting near a male dog. We are now in a terrible financial situation and it will be near to impossible to spay her any time soon.

How dangerous can it be, if we put of spaying her for a while?

Also, I know the cycle lasts about 3 weeks, but those with female dogs, does the blood drip for the full 3 weeks? If I get her those shorts with the pads, will she be able to pee with it on or do we have to remove it?

My little girl is growing up..sigh!!

Aw, poor Kalisee. My dogs were never spayed when I was a kid and I never noticed any change in behaviour or anything. If she's not going to be near any male dogs I don't see it as a problem. Some people think it's better to have a couple of heats before spaying to allow your pup to reach sexual maturity.

I'm not sure about the blood thing, but I was under the impression that it only lasts for part of the heat. I'm sure someone else can answer that better. Do you have any places in your country that subsidise spaying for people that can't afford it? We have the dog's trust and it costs £30 instead of about £150.

Sugar is just over her first heat and the blood part only lasted a few days for her, not even a week I don't think, maybe 3 or 4 days just. I didn't get her pants or anything and didn't find blood anywhere, she kept herself very clean.

The blood only lasts part of the time and most females lick constantly trying to keep cleaned up.

That said it still sometimes gets places. We used diapers when my friend's female went into heat. You have to take them off so they can pee.

You could also cover furniture with old blankets and such, try the thrift store? Then you could wash them often to keep everything clean.

Thanks everyone. Thanks Melissa for the link! She seems to be doing ok, no problems. She will clean herself up and then give us this puzzled look..there hasnt been any big mess and I had alot of furniture covered (mostly because I thought she would be shedding more, like my previous mixed breed).

poor baby!!!! Lmao i wonder if dogs go thru cramps too...was gigglin at u callin it aunt flo. I always call mine that abd esp. The b word when its the time of the month when aunt flo comes for a visit....shes never nice to me congrats for becomin a woman! In a dog way rofl

Maybe..they must feel different though. I noticed she kept jumping on me for cuddles much more than she usually does a few days before and would whimper softly...could be that or the fact that she was just bored.

I'm sorry your aunt isn't kinder to you...
