Okay, so we've bought the new girl home (on Sunday) and Roxy's gone nuts. I'm not sure if she's actually fighting with Tia or just playing but she seems kinda rough and does make Tia yelp every so often. There's lots of tail wagging going on and Tia doesn't seem to be worried when Roxy charges for her, she even follows behind until she gets some attention. I'm just a lil worried that Roxy will hurt Tia, I can't imagine that being bounced on and mouthed constantly is great for her. Roxy's just coming up for 5 months and Tia's only 8 weeks old. Should I be keeping them apart more or am I just worrying for nothing? Advice please Oh, and I'll post pictures soon, when I can get Tia to sit still lol

Well they need to be watched while playing, Tia is really young and can get hurt very easy, it hard to give any advice since we can't see how they are playing. My pug Sadie (6 years old ) can get rough with Ike ( 3 months old), I just keep an eye on them until I feel things are getting to rough. We got Ike at 7 1/2 weeks so I didn't let the bigger dogs play with him at first. Yours are the same breed and both still babies. I bet they are adorable, love to see picture of them.

As Evelyn said, you want to make sure to monitor playtime in case it gets out of hand. How old was Roxy when you got her? Ideally, pups should stay with their moms until at least 10-12 weeks in order to develop proper social skills which they learn from mom and littermates. Since Tia's just 8 weeks old herself she may not have quite learned how to communicate when she's had enough. They will learn from each other, but it may take a few nips to let each other know what is "too rough." Soon enough they will establish their relationship and "pecking order" so to speak, meanwhile just supervise them when together and make sure each gets enough attention and exercise (independent of roughousing that is, i.e. plenty of walks and one on one time with mom.) Hi, thanks for the advice. Roxy was just over 10 weeks when I got her. I did ask Tias breeder if he would keep her til 10 weeks but as he said that she'd be by herself all day as his other chihuahuas stay outside and he didn't want the mum being in with Tia either I didn't think it would really help with her socialisation so I took her at 8 weeks, even then she was the last of her litter to leave as the others had left a few days before.

The same thing happened with my two. Mylo was being a bit rough, which was a dominance issue. I supervised them and only stopped it when I thought it may be dangerous. I kept them apart while I was out of the house. After 2-3 weeks they play more nicely and know when the other one wants to be left alone. Now I leave them together and they're fine.

Thanks. Luckily someone's always with my two so Roxy doesn't get the opportunity to get too carried away. This morning Roxy was actually playing nicely with Tia and I thought they'd sorted things out. Cue five minutes later and poor Tia was getting ran over by Roxy. Oh well, spoke too soon lol

Yep, I know the feeling! I kept thinking 'maybe they've sorted things out' but no! I was worried at first that I'd made a huge mistake but everything is absolutely fine now It just takes time.

I would just keep an eye on them. All of mine are close in age and when a new one came home they would be watched all the time to ensure that no one got hurt. They have all learned when is playtime and when everyone wants 'me' time.
