i have a female chi whose just coming up to a year old. she had her first heat cycle in october and so kept her and our male chi seperate as best we could. the plan was to let her have her first cycle then get her spayed. Since her cycles finnished towards the end of october her vulva is still very swollen and her nipples have gradually increased in size. her appetite has incresed and she is incredibly affectionate and sleepy. ive also noticed her tummy is a little rounded and firm. She weighs just under 4lbs and my male weighs 5lbs. Is there a chance this could be a phantom pregnancy with it being her first cycle or do you think she could well be pregnant. the vet she usually sees is away on holiday at the moment so i cant take her there just yet to be checked. yes i know breeding is irresponsible and believe me it is far from my plans so please do not judge me i only want whats in her best interests. Any advice would be very much appreciated thanks

Oh boy I'm sure the only way to know for sure is to check with a vet evn if ita not ur regular one. Unless u want to wait till yours comes back from holiday. So sorry ur goin thru this, unplanned pregnancies ar difficult in any species

When my Irish Setter had a false pregnancy, she even had milk! She adopted a hair brush she found! Happens about 63 days later, just like a real pregnancy. I'd take her to the vet when they get home after the holiday.

Dog abortions do exists. I know that sounds sad but in my opinion I'd rather abort unborn puppies then euthanize dogs after they are born.

It will be okay honey! I have had many unneutered and unspayed dogs in my home at the same time, with the females in heat(Rescues, and babysitting friends show dogs. I also didn't neuter my Rottie until he was 2 yrs old, and he was around females in heat. Just kept him leashed, or separate.). NO pregnancies. There is a small window of time where a female can get pregnant. Most likely you're fine. If she does end up preggs, okay, just find responsible homes, then you can get her spayed. On the plus side, chis usually have small litters. Life happens. Good luck!
