Hi there

I'm fairly new on this forum but I am so glad I found it!
I've had my little 12 week old chi for 2 nights now, I am SO in love with her!

Her potty training isn't going too well at the minute.
She sleeps in a smaller crate in my bedroom at night and she settles well and sleeps through the night. she did poo in her crate as it contained her bed and 1/2 of the crate was newspaper.

I take her downstairs in the morning to her bigger crate for her food and water. Before having her food and water she had a wee on the paper in front of her crate I gave her lots of praise for weeing on the paper. BUT A few minutes later she did a poo on the carpet! she won't poo on paper

I would ideally like her to go outside to go toilet but its freezing outside and if I put her outside she just cowers on the floor all cold. She doesn't know what to do.
Am I babying her too much? Should I be teaching her not to use the paper at all.

I have to keep my eye on her at all times as she went behind the sofa to go for a poo yesterday! Its exhausting worrying she's toileting everywhere.
I love her to bits and I want to teach her the right way.

Any advice would be great thank you so much xxx

I toilet trained all mine to go outside, so I'm not much help on pad training

I have a puppy playpen. When I am not watching a puppy carefullly, they are in the pen. Toys, water, food are available. I use a washable pee pad in their pen. Where were you when she poo'd behind the couch? Not watching!!! The weather is really cold here, and I am SO glad I trained my chi's to go inside or outside.

Hi, if you want her to toilet outside I think you've just got to go for it, that's what I did and although it was really hard at first perseverance does pay off, I remember in the early days Bella was so tiny and she used to sit on my foot and shiver, I nearly gave in loads of times but I'm glad now I didn't as she's totally housetrained whatever the weather even heavy rain and snow, I'm a cruel mummy.

Douglas sometimes tries to pull the "Let me in I am cold!" thing but if you fall for it they just do it more. He gets a coat put on in yucky weather and is put out BY HIMSELF. (I had a foster who would only potty if you were right there. In the rain. Never again.) I wait at the door and as soon as he goes potty I open the door, praise, and call him back inside.
